  • Wild camping on a deliberately basic third-generation family-run farm
  • A 15-minute drive from the New Forest and 40 minutes from Bournemouth
  • Two pubs and a trout fishery within walking distance; walking nearby
Hunting for a basic back-to-nature styled break? Walnut Tree Campsite is deliberately basic, meaning you’ll be in for an unfiltered, peaceful stay surrounded by the West Hampshire countryside in a place once occupied by the Romans. Here, a third-generation family-run local farm will be your new abode in the village of Rockbourne in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From walking and fishing to chartering a high-speed RIB or touring the sites on an open-top bus… on the border between West Hampshire, South Wiltshire and North Dorset, this place is a real magnet for cyclists, walkers, wildlife fans and other outdoor activities enthusiasts, thanks to the surrounding grasslands, ancient woodlands, chalk river valleys (with many trails found local to the site). Wildlife’s a treat here too. You may catch wild animals, deer and a host of birds and fish in the Bourne river when it’s in stream – and over in New Forest, 15 minutes’ drive away, ponies, cattle, donkeys and deer. Keeping with the wild theme, the site has purposefully basic wild camping facilities just for convenience. This means portable toilets, fresh clean drinking water and a small area for washing dishes. Those of you who want to park up the car and forget about it will be set here too, as Rockbourne village is 15 minutes’ walk away (there's a pub and trout fishery here) and Whitsbury (with another pub and a castle) is 40 minutes’ walk away. You’ll also be able to cycle to Damerham and Fordingbridge for shops and more friendly holes.
