  • Well-tended holiday park in Cornwall's Tamar Valley
  • On the edge of St Ann's Chapel; 30 minutes' drive from Plymouth
  • Dog-friendly accommodation; all units come with a private hot tub
How would you feel about a bolthole of your own on the edge of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Pretty positive, most likely – and you'll be even more enthusiastic about your south Cornwall getaway once you've seen the set-up at Tamar View Holiday Park in St Ann's Chapel. The accommodation on offer at this well-tended spot is high-spec indeed: fully-fitted kitchens, spacious living areas and sizeable sleeping quarters all come as standard. There are also a few little extras like coffee makers to help you settle in, as well as one big extra – a private hot tub for the exclusive use of you and your party. (That doesn't include any dogs you've brought along, unfortunately, but they should be happy traipsing down the many Tamar trails available nearby…) Outdoors, on your terrace you can admire the park’s grounds, which are full of colourful shrubs and plants. Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is set over a gentle slope, with far-reaching views over the local farmland that stretches all the way down the coast. This vantage point is particularly pleasant at sunset, while at night you'll spot the odd flash from the Eddystone Lighthouse far out at sea. When it's time to head down to the shore, you could make for the maritime city of Plymouth (30 minutes) or for the more rural beaches around Seaton (35 minutes) or the Rame Peninsula (35 to 50 minutes).

Local attractions

There are ample possibilities for keeping the kids entertained in this neck of the woods. Morwellham Quay (10 minutes' drive) has a Victorian copper mine you can explore on a small-gauge railway, as well as riverside eating spots and regular craft demos for creative kids. For indoor entertainment, you'll want to be Plymouth-bound, as this seaside city has attractions including the National Marine Aquarium and an ice rink (both 30 minutes). Grownup guests looking for a sophisticated jaunt could equally skip the skates and make tracks to the St Mellion Estate (10 minutes), where an award-winning golf course, spa and gym have the makings of a thoroughly refreshing day out. Follow up with a stint at some of the area's National Trust properties, like Cotehele's Tudor house (10 minutes) or grandiose Buckland Abbey (20 minutes). Walkers after something a bit more ambitious may be pleased to learn that the site is a mere 15-minute trip from the edge of Dartmoor National Park, while the spectacular South West Coast Path is 30 minutes from base.
