  • No-frills camping on grass pitches backed by woodland in rural Dorset
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage beach; Corfe Castle 10 minutes
  • Dark site with Swanage Railway and the South West Coast Path close by
Coombe Farm Camping offers a simple, peaceful Camping or Glamping experience on the outskirts of Swanage in Dorset. The site is set in a 13-acre field framed by oak woods, with exceptional views across the Downs and a real chance of spotting wildlife like deer and owls. Enjoy quiet evenings on our tents-only site, sitting under the stars roasting marshmallows over a cozy small open fire with your family and your dog; what could be better! One thing you’ll get here that’s certainly a novelty is steam locomotives chuffing along Swanage Railway at the bottom of the camping field – not everyone can say they’ve got a heritage railway line almost to themselves – and there’s even a footpath down to the railway track if you’d like to get a better view of the trains. Despite this field feeling wonderfully remote, it’s actually only a five-minute drive from Swanage, with its popular beach, great pubs and restaurants. And if you’d rather cook for yourselves, here you can pick up stuff to grill on the firepit back at base. If you’re into serious walking, you can jump on the South West Coast Path in five minutes’ drive, for bracing hikes along clifftops, and if you’re keen on your medieval history, drive to 11th-century Corfe Castle (10 minutes) to scramble around the hillside ruins. Basic facilities include a tap in the washing-up area and portable toilets, but what this site is all about is the chance to spend quiet evenings sitting under the stars with family and friends – and remember to bring that telescope so you can watch the Milky Way glittering above on clear nights.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The site owner was very friendly and welcoming, made efforts to talk to all of the people staying. It was a great site, ad really did have great views of the stars on an evening. We booked for 1 night, and decided to stay for 2 as it was great. There are fire pits to rent and you can buy wood too. Great extra touch. The facilities were clean and it was a well presented and maintained site.

Disliked: The only dislike i had was no showers, i felt if there were i would have been inclined to stay longer.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet setting, clean portaloos. Our little one loved hearing the steam train go past at the bottom of the field. Friendly staff staying on site.

Disliked: Nothing really. It is basic, no showers but we were only there for a few nights so it wasn't an issue for us.
