  • Small, secluded and rural Anglesey campsite with Snowdonia views
  • A 10-minute drive from the beaches at Rhosneigr and Trearddur Bay
  • Dog- and family-friendly back-to-basics wild camping near the A55
Set in 10 acres of farmland on the north-west side of the Isle of Anglesey, Cymunod's wild camping field is in peaceful rural surroundings. If you’d like to wake up to spectacular rural views and glimpses over to Snowdonia peaks, this is just the spot for you. It’s also a smashing base for active families (and their canine chums) looking to get out onto the beach as soon as possible – sandy Rhosneigr and Trearddur Bay beaches are both within 10 minutes’ drive, with lots of other options further afield, like Llanddwyn (20 minutes). Should you ever tire of the beach (highly unlikely, really), the site sits beside a cycle route, and there are fantastic coastal walks all around the island with sea views and bracing fresh air. And if that doesn’t tire you all out, you can up the fitness regime in the on-site gym for an extra cost. This site may be in a quiet spot, but it’s also a very handy one. It’s easily accessible from the A55, which runs over the Britannia Bridge (15 minutes) from mainland Wales. You can stroll to Caergeiliog village shop (half an hour’s walk) for barbecue basics, with bigger amenities in Valley (five minutes’ drive) like a chip shop, convenience store and a launderette, should you feel the need for a spruce up. If cooking and shopping are not your idea of holiday fun, then you can find a whole host of pubs and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive, and plenty more scattered across the island. On site, the facilities include and toilet and shower block. The site also hires out firepits and sells logs for the fire.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The host met us on arrival to show us where the toilets are. Convenient next to the A5 Small (at the moment.)

Disliked: A very basic site, literally a small field with some porta-loos that were not v clean. The two showers and cleaner toilets are a short walk past what is a building site. There is one dirty sink to wash up that doesn’t have any hot water and a water tap next to it. I’d have been worried if I’d have taken young kids, due to the building site, scaffolding, rubble, machinery, etc. There are signs everywhere re ‘at your own risk’ but it should be cordoned off in my opinion. There is also a gym in the barn playing loud music. The site is close to the A5 so busy traffic noise although convenient. The site is expanding with work underway for hard standing pitches on another field, not sure how the 2 toilets and showers will cope wth an increase in numbers once this opens. The showers are £1 for 3 mins which is a bit pricy and I object to paying extra for hot water which on most sites comes as standard.

From the manager: I’m so sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. This is a pop up camp site that only opens for 28 days per year for campers. Unfortunately we are in the middle of work being carried out on our usual field. This work was supposed to have finished but due to the bad weather is now behind. As we had bookings booked, rather than cancel them and spoil people’s weekend arrangements we moved the site temporarily to another field. That is why the traffic and the music in the gym was heard and that is why we had to put up last minute portaloo next to the field. Once the site is finished there will be 5 extra bathrooms and much better facilities (including wi-fi). Once again my apologies and we hope you use us again once the new facilities are completed.

Liked: Location and hosts

Disliked: Small feild and alot of campers crowded into one feild. Loud music from the barn and construction work also going on. If we were told about the construction work and also movement onto a different and smaller feild we would of left it and looked elsewhere.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: That we where moved onto a hard standing car park as firld was damp and rolled back. Liked the proximity to beach

Disliked: Small field, seemed to be more about money to be made than comfort. No sink plumbed in to do dishes. Charged for shower a pound for 3 mins, the struggle was real especially as the water was freezing. I had checked the temp and that heater was on. Really un happy with terrible facilities.

From the manager: I’m sorry to hear your comments about your stay with us. Unfortunately our main field was not ready due to bad weather so rather than cancel last minute and let people down we moved the pop up site to another field. Due to the bad reviews about this field we shall not be using it again. We have taken on board the comments about the showers. This was our first weekend for the camping this year so we may have been a bit out of practice. Once again my apologies.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It was ok, toilets were clean, check in and out were nice and simple, plot was fairly flat.

Disliked: There’s building work going on and the site is next to a main road so it’s not exactly pretty and you can hear lots of noise from the road at night. The plots are small and there is nothing in between them, it’s just a plain field with plots squeezed in, but it’s acceptable. The main thing I HATED was the fact it’s a £1 coin every THREE minutes for a shower. I get one must limit the time of showers with limited shower facilities but a pound every 180 seconds is absolutely absurd.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. Our regular field was not quite ready for the weekend so rather than cancel and upset peoples plans we took a last minute decision to move to another field. We will take your comments on board and will now probably wait until the original field is ready. I take on board your comment regarding the charge for the shower.

Local attractions

As well as swimming and sandcastle-building, many of the local beaches have fantastic amenities for watersports. At Rhosneigr (10 minutes’ drive), you can join windsurfers and kitesurfers shooting across the waves on windy days – gear hire and lessons are available too. For a thrilling adrenaline buzz, hop onto a RIB from underneath the Menai Bridge (20 minutes) for high-speed adventures scooting down the coastline. Kids can feed lambs at Foel Farm Park (30 minutes) or take mini-train rides at Gipsy Wood Park (35 minutes, just over the bridge), and with scary jellyfish at Anglesey Sea Zoo (30 minutes) and fluttery butterflies at Pili Palas Nature World (20 minutes), there's loads to amuse them if the weather turns against you. For some grown-up time, up the cultural ante with visits to the National Trust-owned Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes) to view a famous mural by artist Rex Whistler, or head to stately Beaumaris Castle (30 minutes) for tours of unfinished medieval ramparts.
