  • Family-run Monmouthshire glampsite overlooking Monnow Valley
  • A five-minute drive to Monmouth; 25 minutes to Forest of Dean
  • Cosy bell tent with log burner, barbecue and private bathroom trailer
You’ll be following in some famous footsteps when you take a break at Rockfield Glamping… This Monmouthshire site is just outside the little village of Rockfield, which is home to a recording studio that’s hosted the likes of Oasis, Tom Jones and Coldplay and was the main studio used by Queen for recording the epic Bohemian Rhapsody. Fittingly, the accommodation at this glampsite is rather starry as well, as you’ll be staying in a fully furnished and spacious bell tent that’s been smartly done up with a double bed and two singles, plus a log burner to make sure you’ll stay cosy at all times. Handy little touches include an electric socket, a fridge and a kettle so you can make a cuppa whenever you fancy it. The views from here are spectacular, looking out over the Monnow Valley, and the private outdoor space around the tent has been set up to help you make the most of them – perhaps take your morning coffee out into the fresh air, or bring along some sausages to grill on the barbecue as the sun sets? Those views have inspired the design of the private bathroom trailer just by the tent too – of course, it’s been fitted out with a toilet, sink and shower, but the highlight is the hot water bath that sits by a huge window which you can open to keep admiring the gorgeous green hills while you soak (perhaps with a glass of something in hand?) A shared kitchen (with cooker, microwave and toaster) is nearby if you’d like to sort yourselves a meal – or you could head into Monmouth, three miles away, for a good collection of pubs and restaurants.

Bell tent

Liked: Absolutely lovely stay over Easter weekend! Comfy beds, lovely converted trailer bathrooms, fire pits and stoves in tents. Loved having proper electric to tent too. Individual fridges for each tent is a great touch too. Really well thought out site, everything you could possibly need and if not, Sarah is super helpful. Highly recommend!

Bell tent

Liked: The remoteness and the views were stunning. We were greeted by Sarah who give me all the information I needed to get going and then let us just get on with our holiday. The Accommodation was exactly as I expected with a made up double bed and 2 singles. We soon got the hang of the log burner and outside fire pit, and with the free bottle of Prosecco provided by Sarah we settled in. The horse box private bathroom was a brilliant addition to a tented holiday and just allowed us to relax even further as there wasn’t the usual queue for the shower block as on most camp sites. We will be doing this again, but remember it is a camping holiday and not a 5 star hotel, so for some people this may still seem like they are roughing it if you’ve never camped before.

Disliked: Out of the 4/5 tents on the site only 2 were occupied that weekend, so I can’t really complain about this issue too much, but the shared kitchen could be a problem if the site is full as most people will want to use it at the same time, ( breakfast, lunch, etc), however, we and the other holiday makers worked around each other quite well, but I feel if the site was full it may have been a different story.

Local attractions

Rockfield is a family-run business, so the folk on site are happy to give out advice on what to do in the area, perhaps suggesting fishing spots, nature walk routes or activities. Some local favourites include golf at The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club and a tour of Ancre Hill Vineyard (both five minutes’ drive away). Keep it active with a walk in the Forest of Dean (25 minutes’ drive), a canoe trip on the River Wye from the Monmouth Activity Centre (10 minutes) or a hike in the Brecon Beacons – perhaps climbing the Sugar Loaf (half an hour). If you’ve got kids to entertain, there’s plenty to choose from – perhaps take them underground at Clearwell Caves (25 minutes), to explore the magical trails of Puzzlewood (25 minutes) or to meet the cute creatures and ride a tractor at Raglan Farm Park (15 minutes). Tintern Abbey (25 minutes) and Chepstow Castle (35 minutes) are both worth a visit too.
