  • Well-maintained grass site in a peaceful Pembrokeshire location
  • Pembrokeshire Alpaca Trekking five minutes’ drive; Tenby 15 minutes
  • Pubs, restaurants and shops nearby; barbecues and firepits allowed
Splendid beaches, ancient castles and alpaca treks might already be on your watchlist; if not, Cresselly Camping is well positioned for those and many more Pembrokeshire activities – from rural hikes to fishing, and from mountain biking to watersports (paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing). You see, this friendly family-run site is within a five-minute drive of Carew Castle and Tidal Mill, with its kid-oriented activity programme, and 15 minutes from the coast and Tenby. Part of a small sheep farm, Cresselly is peacefully rural, with sublime scenery and plentiful walks. There are 11 grassy acres on site – plenty of space for kids and well-behaved dogs to play (as long as dogs are cleaned up after) – and basic facilities including portable toilets, a hot eco-shower, a washing-up station and a drinking-water tap. You’ll also be able to sample the local fodder, as there are several pubs within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. In addition, the local farm shop sells fresh milk via a vending machine; there is a small store and a fish-and-chip shop in Carew (five minutes); and Kilgetty (20 minutes) has several food places, a supermarket, chemist and post office. Those of you who don’t mind driving a little farther may want to browse Saundersfoot’s (20 minutes) beach-hut shops and eateries, or the bigger supermarkets in Pembroke Dock (also 20 minutes) – here, you’ll surely find something to stick on the barbecue or firepit back on site.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Loved our overnight stay here, there were only a few facilities but that was plenty for us as we had the whole field for ourselves. The owners were really accommodating and lovely and friendly. I would recommend this sight to friends and family. It was a really good price too.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The owners were very attentive- cleaned the toilets everyday and delivered a fire pit and logs! Campsite was spacious with all necessary facilities- toilets, shower, sink. Relatively quiet, but only a short taxi ride from Tenby and Saundersfoot (20mins). There was phone service also! Overall, a beautiful campsite for a good price!! We had so much fun, we will 100% be back in the summer!

Disliked: There was no WiFi available, although all phones had service. Not really an issue, as we were all rarely on our phones.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: My partner and I went camping for the weekend and we really loved this site. When we arrived, it was easy to contact the owner and let ourselves in and out as and when we wanted. The owner also made sure to visit the site twice a day to clean toilets/showers/bins etc. We had chance to speak with the owner whilst there and she was lovely and welcoming and always asked if there was anything she could do for us. Really friendly and welcoming. Site is also close to many local shops, garages, takeaways and local pubs. My partner and I plan to visit this site again.

Disliked: Shower area only has open space to change after showering which made it difficult on rainy days. However, owner of site has asked us about this and said she is looking to make improvement and will take this into consideration.

Local attractions

If you want to get in touch with your inner David Attenborough, start by visiting Pembrokeshire Alpaca Trekking (five minutes’ drive). In addition to walking alongside these friendly ruminants, you’ll also be able to feed them, pet them – and even buy them. For more animal encounters, check out the residents at Manor Wildlife Park (15 minutes). The seaside town of Tenby (15 minutes) has sandy beaches either side of a headland topped by a museum with local maritime artefacts, plus the ruins of a medieval castle. You can join a fishing charter from the harbour, or (at low tide) walk to St Catherine Island and check out a Napoleonic fort. Whether you’re after land- or water-based adventures, this corner of Pembrokeshire will deliver. Heatherton World of Activities (15 minutes) has a high ropes course and giant jumping pillows, while Wild Lakes Wales (25 minutes) is an aquatic park with an inflatable course and wakeboarding, plus indoor activities like bouldering.
