  • Small family-run Pembrokeshire site with dog-friendly grassy pitches
  • A 35-minute walk from Saundersfoot and a five-minute drive to Tenby
  • Barbecues welcome; farm shop within five minutes' walk
Gold-sand coves, limestone stacks and fishing harboursā€¦ get your Pembrokeshire fix at Crane Cross Camping Park. Based just 35 minutesā€™ walk from Saundersfoot, where the sandy cove has shallow bathing water, this small family-run site has a splendid location alright. Tenby, a popular Pembrokeshire seaside town with a castle, 13th-century walls and a harbour where boats depart to Caldey Island, is only five minutesā€™ drive away too. Dog-friendly? Indeed. Barbecues welcome? That too.Handy facilities? Of course. Thereā€™s a fridge and freezer in case you want to store fresh eats from the farm shop five minutesā€™ walk away. Other on-site facilities are handy and include ladies and gentsā€™ toilets, handwashing basins, unisex showers, shaver points, washing-up facilities, an ironing board and hot and cold water. For an additional cost, thereā€™s also a washing machine, dryer and payphone available. For the kids, meanwhile, there's a sand play area where they can dig, explore and make friends. The site only accepts families and couples, which keeps things nice and peaceful. Dogs are welcome too as long as they're kept on leadsā€¦ It's a cracking location for walks for canines (or humans), with the countryside and coast so easily accessible.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly, helpful couple running the campsite, very clean straight forward facilities. Nicely spaced pitches in a very natural tree and grassed campsite. Great star and bird watching from the site.

Disliked: Although the campsite is near Tenby and Saunderfoot there isn't a bus service on the main road. There is a recycling centre near with some noise but this would not worry most.

From the manager: Thank you for staying at CC and for your review. We are glad you liked some aspects of the site. We are grateful that we are based so near to both Saundersfoot and Tenby. Buses into Tenby go very regularly from Saundersfoot (5 mins by car, and 30 mins walk). Thereā€™s even an open top double decker bus that does itā€™s rounds around south Pembrokeshire in high season. Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: I have stayed at many campsites in my time, but this was the first time I'd taken a touring caravan to one. As this was my first time taking a tourer I emailed the owner a couple of days before to ask for some further information on the site, I had an extremely quick reply, which was unexpected given I emailed quite late at night! Whilst the owner is not based on site, they hung around to greet me on my arrival and helped me with information to get myself setup. He was also very accommodating for the fact this was my first time ever pitching. The campsite itself was absolutely lovely, very clean and tidy in a location which makes it easy to access both Tenby and Saundersfoot. I have read several reviews which noted the "dated" facilities, but any improvements here would purely be aesthetic, and really the facilities were amongst some of the best I have encountered. The showers were large, with very powerful and hot showers, they were also spotless and had a proper temperature control and not one of those push buttons to get it going. The toilets much like the showers were very clean, and well stocked with toilet roll, which was decent stuff, not the really thin stuff that disintegrates in your hands. There were hooks to hang clothes and plenty of electric razor power points. I cannot stress enough how clean this place was, it was immaculate! The owner was on site frequently making sure everything was clean and well stocked. There are plenty of communal sinks for cleaning, and a washer dryer facility for clothes cleaning too. In addition to this, a very large communal fridge and separate freezer for the guests was available. Also, available on site were generous recycling facilities, which again, were emptied regularly. Grey and Black waste disposal points were also available near the shower block. The pitches were a very good size, with picnic benches dotted around to use, in fact the couple pitched next to us were having their dinner on the bench by their pitch, and they were also lovely and gave us a warm welcome. We booked a hardstanding pitch with EHU, and whilst the pitches were not level, it did not take much to get the caravan level, even for an amateur like me! The site was nice and quiet, and all the other guests I spoke to were very friendly. The main area with the toilets and showers is lit up at night, but most of the site is quite dark, so a torch is recommended if you want to venture to the on-site toilets after dark, but this was noted in the site description, so it wasn't a surprise. There is a small play area and sandpit, which sadly due to the weather, we were not able to utilise, but it looked very nice, and I have no doubt, will include more equipment as time goes on. All in all, we loved our time here, and will definitely be booking to come again. It's very clear that the owners take pride in their campsite, and they are clearly investing time and money in making improvements based on the feedback of their guests, and their prices don't break the bank either, making it an affordable location for a family holiday!

Disliked: Leaving! We'd have stayed far longer had it not been during school term time.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We had a elec hook up tent, plot 10. Nice & quiet, best bit for us was they have a tall free standing fridge & freezer, great for those that haven't the room in their car for a portable fridge. Good showers too. Close to both fantastic beaches, Saundersfoot & Tenby.

Disliked: Have to pay for wifi- so didnt use.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Everything about the site. There was everything you could possibly need. Fridge/freezer washing machine which could be left and was safe throughout stay, which is handy for short stays! The layout of the pitches were generous with the added selection of pick up benches scattered around. The site is very well kept and looked after really well! Phil the owner came and introduced himself and asked if everything was ok which was lovely! The toilets were very clean and tidy ALWAYS maintained with no toilet roll holder ever empty! Andrex :) which in this day and age canā€™t be cheap hahaā€¦. There was always hand wash and washing up liquid at the wash facilities. This is a lovely peaceful site with everything on the doorstep. There as football goals for the children a sand area and toys for children around. We only walked around the caravan touring area but sure there would be more to discover! There was a beautiful view of the sunset at night which could be viewed through the beautiful trees and greenery. We loved this site so much we booked to return in two weeks.

Disliked: The fact we did not discover this before the summer holidays! There are no complaints here!

Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (10 minutes) is its softer alternative, with over 750 animals and vintage fairground rides. Paintball, golf, archery, fishingā€¦ get your dose at Heatherton World of Activities (five minutes). If youā€™re still craving animals, however, Manor Wildlife Park (five minutes) has a walking safari where guests can have a go at feeding the wallabies. You bet that Pembrokeshire also has some gorgeous coastal path sections, with excellently clear waters and geological formations. The Green Bridge, Elugug Stacks and The Cauldron are all half an hourā€™s drive away, as is Saint Govanā€™s Chapel by the sea and the sandy Broad Haven South beach (half an hour), backed by a lily pond.
