  • Family-friendly countryside park with fishery and reindeer
  • A 20-minute drive from Worcester; 25 minutes from Great Malvern
  • Seven fishing lakes and a licensed restaurant-café on site
Picnics with local meats, cheeses and artisan breads? Reindeer, alpacas, goats, chickens and pigs Thelma and Louise as neighbours? Day trips to Worcester and the Malvern Hills? Tick, tick and tick? Then head to The Cob House Countryside Park, a family-run site in rural Worcestershire with a fishery, countryside park, café and resident animals such as reindeer. Pick up a traditional breakfast from the site’s fully licensed café-restaurant The Mayfly and then sort a picnic from the local meats, cheeses and artisan breads that are available in The Cob Shop. Once well-fed, you should be quite ready to take on the number of walking routes that start directly from The Cob House or the hilly climbs and mountain biking trails in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, half an hour’s drive away. If you’re around in the daytime, there are home-cooked lunches, cakes and afternoon teas available at the café. That's particularly handy if you're getting stuck into your fishing activities… that’s right, the site also has seven coarse fishing lakes (bring your own equipment and try your luck with some rather large carp). The Cob House Countryside Park runs events throughout the year, such as kids’ fun days, fishing lessons, model boat sailing (every Sunday), car boot sales, racing pigeon release, dog shows and fundraising days. As for essential facilities, the site also has a modern toilet and shower block. What about your day trips? Worcester is the closest city 20 minutes’ drive away and has the River Severn, Worcester Cathedral and heaps of interesting shops. Great Malvern, 25 minutes’ drive away, is a characterful town at the foot of the Malvern Hills too.

Liked: stayed on pitch 2 which was more than big enough for our twin axel caravan. Great views of the fishing lakes and the amenity are close which were spotless. site warden was great, nothing to much trouble, he even offered to barrow my fishing tackle to the pegs as i did not bring mine along. fishing is superb with numerous 100 pound plus weights winning club matches while i was there. will not hesitate to return. just be mindful that the lakes can be busy with match bookings but there was always some pegs available for pleasure fishing. we did not eat in the cobb house café but the breakfasts looked very good. there are a couple of local pubs within easy driving distance both serving quality food.

Disliked: phone and tv signal signal very poor but a small price to pay for the great location. there was free wifi in the café if you need to connect.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Good activities for the children. Nice little animal farm. Good restaurant facilities.

Disliked: Very close to neighbouring tents. Lack of privacy and noise levels of some disrespectful adults and children up until all hours. This however was on a bank holiday and I would imagine it would be quieter at other times. Ball games were an issue, hard cricket balls and rugby balls should definitely not be allowed around vehicles. Or outside other people's tents. There was also a firepit fire whilst we there due to unruly children but thankfully it was distinguished before anyone was hurt or tents caught on fire. This has left my grandson traumatised and he has said he would not want to return here due to some families being very irresponsible when they have 8 or more children with them letting them run wild. The warden, Micheal, was lovely and helpful but I can see his job must be very hard at times. My husband also slipped over in the mud at the bottom gate, hurting his back It was almost impassible after the rain, to get to the toilets. This really needs gravel or a proper slabbed pathway putting in. Long walk with children to the toilets and shower block. Not ideal in the middle of the night. I can see this place has many positives but unfortunately our experience on the tent site was not good.

Liked: The campsite was in a nice location and the pitches were of a good size. If you are into small lake fishing, then this is a good site for you. The team on reception were very polite and helpful with our booking.

Disliked: The warden - he comes around looking for problems or conflicts as soon as you arrive and although this is his job, he would do better approaching customers with a little more empathy and respect. The showers are not acceptable with having to press the button on the wall every 2 seconds which is irritating and tiresome. This needs to be rectified as it is not conducive to having a decent shower. There are also only two toilets for men which often involved queuing for them which isn't really sufficient at all. The washing up facilities were very small also with only two sinks.

Liked: Excellent site with a friendly informative warden. Mike was always making sure you were all ok with your stay. The site is a fishery with many lakes and is open to the general public and to people using the site. We don’t fish so we didn’t use this facility. It also has a cafe which serves breakfast and snacks along with alcohol too. We had a few drinks sat out by one of the smaller lakes. Great friendly staff and reasonable prices. There is also a small animal holding on the site with alpacas, ponies, pigs, goats, hens and a reindeer. Nice for the kids and adults who like animals. There is also a small park for the kids. We did a local 5 mile walk which was kindly printed off for us by Mike the warden. We ended our walk at the local pub which was lovely and reasonably priced too. The wash facilities were clean however I noticed on reviews complaints about the showers not staying on for long when you pushed the button. I never had a problem in the ladies and mine stayed on both times for a long period. However the gents didn’t stay on at all and my partner was constantly pushing the button. Maybe a fault. We didn’t have the chance to inform Mike about this problem. There is Wi-Fi but only in the cafe. You can’t get it at the pitches. Also our phone signal was limited. We didn’t mind as we were on holiday. Apart from that we really enjoyed our stay and would return.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Location and animals, surrounded by countryside and not too far if you fancy a stroll to the nearest pub. Warden was very helpful. Pitches were not overcrowded. Site was clean and tidy.

Disliked: Grass surrounding pitch was quite boggy on arrival but this was immediately rectified with placing down temporary plastic walkways.

Local attractions

Kicking things off with a good stroll? Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour’s drive) has options like a town trail, the Teme Valley path, Worcestershire Beacon and the British Camp trek. The Knapp And Papermill Nature Reserve (20 minutes) is not so strenuous, especially if you stop to sniff the wildflowers. It might be that you’re after something that’ll evoke the old times, and English composer Elgar's birthplace The Firs (10 minutes) should get any creative juices flowing. Witley Court and Gardens (15 minutes), a grand manor house, and Brockhampton (20 minutes), an ancient estate, make good spots for a picnic among historic surroundings. If you’re after some lively scenes, Worcester (20 minutes) has a cathedral, museum and a busy high street. There are events and shows year round at the Three Counties Showground (half an hour). Great Malvern (25 minutes) is a characterful spot too, with walks into the hills from the railway station, plus a town trail and regular farmers’ markets.
