Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Brilliant campsite ,beautiful location and facilities . Absolute bargain. Great for young kids to have a bit of freedom . I recommend having a nice walk to Moneyesh following the rout at the back of the campsite , it’s a lovely walk with brilliant scenery and a lovely pub ‘The Bulls Head’ with food and a playground , plus alpacas who like to poke there head over the wall .

Disliked: Take your own wood if you are hiring the fire pit as there is an extra charge for this and it’s the only expensive thing .

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Plenty of Pitches available. Can't upload photos because PitchUp can't manage image sizes on upload, otherwise would have some nice pictures.

Disliked: Lack of facilities and no hot water. Too far to walk for everything and the idea of facilities feels like a burden to the owners.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Peaceful and beautiful setting with views extending far. The owner is lovely and really friendly. This is my second time here in as many weeks. A lot busier last night but it is Whitsun week school holidays; however the clientele was largely respectful in terms of not encroaching too much into anyone's personal space. It was still very quiet considering the amount of people there. At nightime it was especially quiet. There were quite a few dogs there that were really well behaved with not one single bark heard (my 'pet' hate is owners who just let their dogs bark without attempting to stop them). I'll be back shortly.

Disliked: The owner mentioned to me about the insufficient amount of toilet/shower facilities if the campsite is at full capacity (approx. 500 people). Although the site was busy it wasn't too bad. I think in time this will have to be addressed though and I'm sure the owners will plan something in this regard.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: New toilet block in the middle of the fields. Lovely views. Great camping fields to choose from. Water right next to my pitch. Shop now stocks more things, bacon, milk etc. General things you may need. Eggs fresh from the farm. Lovely people who run the campsite. Family friendly. Tree swings.

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tours of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
