  • Peaceful and friendly site in the Shropshire Hills
  • Walkers' paradise with many strolls and hikes close by
  • Animals to meet on site; eggs and meat available to buy
Bring those boots made for walking, for you'll be hungry for the hikes around Shropshire's Teds Farm Camping. Based in Sheriffhales about four miles from Telford, this peaceful, friendly and popular little site is in land where walks are all around, meandering for miles through the wildlife havens of the green Shropshire countryside. Ted's is a smallholding, with grass pitches on a gently sloping field set among the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sheep and ducks wander the site – the kids are welcome to say hi or go and meet some of the menagerie at the animal paddock – and free-range eggs and fresh meat are usually available for sale. Among the well-maintained amenities are showers and toilets, chemical disposal points and facilities for charging and recycling. There's easy access from the site to Sheriffhales village, just off the main A5.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Clearly marked huge pitches. Our tent is big and we still had the car next to us and space in front. Toilets are always cleaned and topped up. Always hot water washing up and the showers are power showers. All disposal bins and chemical waste spaces too with seperate taps to rinse out. Big empty field in the middle for the kids to run round or go and see the chickens at the bottom and you can still see the kids.

Disliked: If I was being picky then a roof over the washing up area as others have said. But I just waited for it to stop raining. Possibly something for the grown up kids to do as nothing is in walking distance.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review, glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we'd love to see you again! We have plans to put a roof over the washing up area very soon actually so this should be in place next time you stay :)

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The freedom and friendliness of the site. It felt really safe for everyone but was not overcrowded, plenty of space for everyone to do what they wanted. Wonderful clean facilities.

Disliked: Only 2 showers available which is not really enough for the capacity of the site

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review, so glad you enjoyed your stay. We had a particularly full bank holiday weekend so I appreciate the number of toilets was pushed to it's limits but really hope this doesn't put you off staying with us again in the future :)

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: What a lovely little site. Such a friendly welcome and an ice cream for the children too, which was much welcomed after a hot car journey. The facilities were basic but fabulous and clean. The toilets and shower rooms were spotless and the same for the washing area, chemical waste area etc.

Disliked: I honestly don’t think I can grumble about anything. Maybe we would have preferred to be facing out to the playing field but I know that’s just luck of the draw.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review, glad you had a nice time with us! If you do book with us again, put on note on your booking requesting an outward facing pitch and we will do our best to accommodate :)

I would recommend Ted’s Farm and would definitely book again.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: By far the best thing about Ted’s is that there is a huge open space/field for the kids to play in. There are not many campsites that have this and it makes such a difference. The kids (and adults) had an absolute blast playing football, rounders etc. The kids also loved visiting the chickens each day. I would like to comment that the toilet facilities were always very clean / well maintained. The owners were friendly and approachable. They even treated the kids to ice lollies which the kids were chuffed about! The site is about a 15 minute drive from RAF Cosford museum. This is well worth a visit as it is free entry. The whole family really enjoyed. There are also lots of other tourist attractions easily accessible from this site. It is very well located.

Disliked: Whilst the pitch sizes themselves are quite generous, there is not a “gap” between pitches. Considering that it is such a large field that we were in, and extra couple of metres buffer between pitches would make a big difference. Some thought out planting would also help disseminate noise between pitches. The toilet block was very clean and modern but with only 2 females and 2 male showers between I would guess 40-50 pitches we were often left queuing or making multiple visits in the hope that the shower was free. The showers themselves are so small that it is difficult to move in them to get dressed after showering especially if you have a child with you. There are only two hooks on the back of the door and no shelf or bench to put anything. If you were of larger build you would really struggle in there showers. I appreciate the safety concerns but it’s a really shame that camp fires are not allowed. It’s such a big part of the camping experience and it’s very uncommon to find camp sites that don’t allow fires. We have visited some where you can only use certain types of fires and wood pellets to reduce the risk of burning wood but most that we visit allow fires. The kids were gutted to not be able to toast marshmallows.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to review your stay at Teds. It was lovely to have you and your family on site. We have taken into account your comments and would just like to say that we are only on our second season at Teds and the toilet and shower block where fully refurbished last season using the original block, which had only one shower in each of the Mens and Ladies. We are aware they are small. and we do aim to improve on these gradually. I am glad you understand the safety concerns regarding fires on our campsite.

Very welcoming nice family atmosphere…

Liked: Very welcoming nice family atmosphere

Disliked: Toilets and lovely new and clean however only 2 toilets and 1 urinal so quiet limited and only two showers this was in the male toilets and the location is very rural.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we're glad you enjoyed the site. We had a particularly full bank holiday weekend so I appreciate the number of toilets was pushed to it's limits. As for the location, we can't really help this and hope that our guests check where the nearest provisions are before booking, but despite not having provisions within walking distance we like to think the rural location is part of the charm :) I really hope this doesn't put you off staying with us again as it was a pleasure to have you and we'd love to see you again

Local attractions

As you'll have brought your sturdy boots, stride out into the Shropshire Hills AONB in any direction for green countryside and wildlife haven walks, or drive in the Telford direction for a woodland wander around Wrekin Forest. Striding around establishments is also a topping option when on holiday in any locale, so check out the craft and antique shops, tearooms and pubs, grocers and butchers of the region's market towns like Ellesmere, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth. Set in the centre of Shropshire on the River Severn, the Tudor town of Shrewsbury is also well worth a wander, for more shopping (but of course), Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle, the museum and art gallery, town centre park and – if you're in town in mid-August – the famed Shrewsbury Flower Show. Also around in Shropshire and its surrounds are award-winning museums, lushly green gardens, farms and abbeys, historic houses managed by the National Trust and English Heritage, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, about 20 minutes' drive from Teds Farm Camping.
