  • Quiet adults-only campsite in rural Lancashire
  • A mile from Chorley town centre; Go Ape Rivington 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches beneath Healy Nab; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Primrose Cottage Camping – a sweet-smelling name indeed, with spectacular countryside views to match. Set amid grassy fields, woodlands and streams in the lovely Lancashire countryside, this adults-only site is an excellent spot for back to basics camping in a low-key setting. Located beneath Healy Nab and next to Blackbrook stream, the site is hidden away in the local countryside. Flat walks along both footpaths and canals are available a few hundred yards from the site gates, making it a cinch to get out there and explore Lancashire's best scenic spots and wildlife havens… Strolling through the local landscape is, of course, an activity you can get up to with your dog if you've brought one along – Primrose Cottage Camping has pet-friendly rules, with polite four-legged friends welcome here all year round. In fact, all guests at this quiet site are asked to be polite and keep any music at a low level for the benefit of everyone around. Chorley town centre is a mile away, although with the rural views here you wouldn't know it. The closest pub is 10 minutes' walk away, and are plenty more pubs, shops and cafés in town within easy reach either on foot (20 minutes' walk) or by car (five minutes' drive). There's also good access to the speedy M61 for long-distance drives to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, both of which can be reached within an hour.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: - The size of a pitch - Peace and quiet - No under 18s rule - Toilet block nice and clean - Shop 20 min walking distance - Plenty of wood with a firepit

Disliked: - No hot water but it's not a big deal - There's houses nearby, not as remote as preferred, still very nice site though

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked: Love the location... only 20 minutes away from the motorway . Close to a lovely pub called The Mason's Arms within a 15 minute walk from campsite. Laury and her husband were very nice people and happy to help.

Disliked: Would be lovely if hot water and electricity could be added in the future ..

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The host was very nice, not intrusive, and felt as though they were easy to contact if you needed anything. The field is large with plenty space to pick from. Toilet facilities were great, fully stocked and clean.

Disliked: More of a suggestion, but a small stone path from the toilets to the edges of field would be perfect! As it was sadly raining during my visit, and being a tent camper, the field got really boggy the more it rained. Meaning muddy puddles/ wet feet were a real concern, especially when dark.
