  • Small family-run Pembrokeshire site with dog-friendly grassy pitches
  • A 35-minute walk from Saundersfoot and a five-minute drive to Tenby
  • Barbecues welcome; farm shop within five minutes' walk
Gold-sand coves, limestone stacks and fishing harboursā€¦ get your Pembrokeshire fix at Crane Cross Camping Park. Based just 35 minutesā€™ walk from Saundersfoot, where the sandy cove has shallow bathing water, this small family-run site has a splendid location alright. Tenby, a popular Pembrokeshire seaside town with a castle, 13th-century walls and a harbour where boats depart to Caldey Island, is only five minutesā€™ drive away too. Dog-friendly? Indeed. Barbecues welcome? That too.Handy facilities? Of course. Thereā€™s a fridge and freezer in case you want to store fresh eats from the farm shop five minutesā€™ walk away. Other on-site facilities are handy and include ladies and gentsā€™ toilets, handwashing basins, unisex showers, shaver points, washing-up facilities, an ironing board and hot and cold water. For an additional cost, thereā€™s also a washing machine, dryer and payphone available. For the kids, meanwhile, there's a sand play area where they can dig, explore and make friends. The site only accepts families and couples, which keeps things nice and peaceful. Dogs are welcome too as long as they're kept on leadsā€¦ It's a cracking location for walks for canines (or humans), with the countryside and coast so easily accessible.

Liked: The site was very well kept and the pitch size was great. Facilities here are fantastic. On our first night we used the washing machine and tumble dryer. If you plan on doing any laundry youā€™ll need to take lots of 20p coins for the dryer and the washing machine is only Ā£2!! The toilets and showers were immaculate! The owner was around a lot and helped with any problems we had. Perfect location, we had a fantastic stay. Will definitely be returning.

Liked: Plenty of safe space in front of van for kids to play and mix with others. Toilet/shower block well cleaned. No shop, no temptations for kids. Easy access from main road.

Disliked: If you are a light sleeper then road noise could be an issue. Ask for a hard standing at the far end of the site if you want it a bit quieter.

From the manager: Thank you for this great review and for your stay at Crane Cross. There are no road noises the other side of the campsite, you are right. We are glad you enjoyed. Rhian & Phil

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Easily accessible site, just off main road, but far enough away as to not hear any passing traffic. Small campsite with good atmosphere, dog friendly and even has a separate field for the dogs to have a good run around off lead. Nicely maintained toilets and showers and a washing up area with good hot water, not Luke warm like some. There was also a small building with a payphone, communal fridge and freezer and a power bank rental unit too. I believe there were also wooden benches dotted around that could be taken over to your pitch to use during your stay.

From the manager: Thank you for your great review and your stay at CC. We are delighted you liked the dog area as we have worked on it this year. Thank you for listing all our facilities too. So pleased you enjoyed! Rhian & Phil

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: We booked last minute and paid for one night as we were unsure if we would want to stay, we arrived at dusk and were unable to clearly see the site. We had no need to be cautious! This is such a gorgeous campsite! Let me tell you about it: Large spacious pitches on lush green grass! We had a VW T6 with awning. We paid Ā£30 a night. The toilet block is spotless and there are ample toilets, sinks, mirrors and shelving (important things for a woman!! ) toilet paper is regularly replenished. The showers are clean, spacious and powerful! There are plenty of these too! Even some lovely benches to sit outside on if you are waiting to go in or for someone to come out. (I.e familyā€¦ not a random stranger!) There is a utility room with a huge fridge and freezer where you can label your stuff and put it safely. Washing machines and dryers, Charging blocks (portable)which only cost you Ā£1 an hour to borrow and the Ā£30 holding fee is immediately returned when you put the block back (this came as an absolute godsend for my 13 yr old daughter as we had no electrical hookup) Covered areas if you need to shelter from the lush Welsh rain and pot wash areas kitted out with plenty of washing up liquid! The whole campsite is so clean and well kept! Pitches are allocated by the owner who was a very friendly and helpful man. There is an incredible farm shop just up the road where you can get absolutely everything you need.. (think Clarksonā€™s Diddly Squat farm shop on steroids!) Note:If you want their hot coffee you will need 2 x Ā£1 coins per cup for the machine! Back on the campsite we met people who have used this site for 30yrs. There are two swingball sets, little goal posts and an open grassy area in the centre for families to play.. it was so lovely to sit of an evening and watch everyone playing different games and having fun in the open air. The atmosphere was just heartwarming. People had gas stoves, some had campfires, it was well lit at night, gravel paths around so you donā€™t have to weave in and around tents and trip over guide ropes..Surrounded by trees.. itā€™s just so pretty! Ive spent a lot of years camping in the rest of the UK.. this is one of the best Iā€™ve ever been to and it was my first visit to Wales! Itā€™s a ten minute drive from Tenby and so close to various beaches and harbours and beauty spots.. cannot recommend this site enough! We ended up staying the full 4 nights! Absolutely stunning x

Disliked: No dislikesā€¦ I would only have one recommendation and that would be to have a few picnic benches further down the other end of the site for tent campers.. but this would just be a bonus.. not a necessity xxx If you simply cannot leave your devices at home the WiFi is not great at the tent end of the campsiteā€¦ that was not a problem for us at all.. only for my 13yr old daughter! but the bonus was.. she had to put her phone down and play in the real world!! So this was considered a perk from our point of view!!

From the manager: Thank you so much for this amazing review and for staying at our campsite. We are very humbled by itā€™s content! We are so pleased that you and your lovely family enjoyed. Wi-fi works much better near the sink area of the campsite, not so well at the top of the field. We do need to look into getting the wi-fi to work more efficiently all over the campsite. Oakwood Theme Park (15 minutesā€™ drive) has rollercoasters and water rides, including loop-the-loops or family-friendly coasters. Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (10 minutes) is its softer alternative, with over 750 animals and vintage fairground rides. Paintball, golf, archery, fishingā€¦ get your dose at Heatherton World of Activities (five minutes). If youā€™re still craving animals, however, Manor Wildlife Park (five minutes) has a walking safari where guests can have a go at feeding the wallabies. You bet that Pembrokeshire also has some gorgeous coastal path sections, with excellently clear waters and geological formations. The Green Bridge, Elugug Stacks and The Cauldron are all half an hourā€™s drive away, as is Saint Govanā€™s Chapel by the sea and the sandy Broad Haven South beach (half an hour), backed by a lily pond.
