Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

A aimé : Campsite was good, toilet blocks clean and tidy. On-site shop, bar and kitchen was fab too! Ladies at reception and the bar were super friendly and helpful.

N'a pas aimé: We got very unlucky with some noisy neighbours playing music, arguing and drinking through the entire day until 10.30pm and then decided it was a good time to inflate their beds with engines running. The owners did come down quickly and quietened them down to their credit though.

A aimé : Absolutely lovely site. Can't fault at all. Very clean and tidy. Lovely little onsite bar and shop. Takeaway food looked very nice too. Lovely canal walk close by and lovely local pubs. Will be going back again

A aimé : The site was lovely and most importantly the loos and showers were spotless. The food on site was amazing we ordered burgers and chill chips omg. To my surprise it was actually homemade chill on the chips which was beautiful. The staff in the shop and the chef were so friendly and helpful it was a great weekend.

A aimé : Everything about this site! What a lovely, family friendly site. Couldn’t find a fault. Loads to do, birds, goats, a well stocked shop with fire pits to hire, a park and even bouncy castles! We even had a takeaway from the onsite kitchen which was lovely. The bouncy castles were on from 9am - 7/8pm and were free. The kids loved them! If you walk 10 mins down the road there is also a lovely little country pub which serves food and quirky bar / second hand yard which is by the canal (on the other side of the road). We really enjoyed our stay and are really looking forward to visiting again!

A aimé : The clean site, children loved the bouncy castles, play area, feeding the goats, the parrot and birds. Staff were so friendly and helpful, particular the lady on reception and who ran the shop.

Attractions à proximité

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
