Lancashire glamping holidays

It’s no wonder that Lancashire – a land of sloping countryside, canals and a lively coastline – is a popular glamping destination. Whether you stay near the bright lights of Blackpool and Lancaster or hole up in a remote rural spot, there’s lots to look forward to on a Lancashire glamping break.

This might include cosy evenings relaxing outside your shepherd’s hut or stoking a barbecue beside a fancy bell tent. You might want to stay in a cosy lodge on a country estate or roll out of a full-sized bed to a view of the Ribble Valley. Whatever you've got in mind, we've got plenty of choice for you.

Where you should stay in Lancashire

  • If outdoor activities are your primary focus, map out the way to the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Beauty with activities like rock climbing, gorge walking, caving, canoeing and rock climbing. If you’re particularly outdoorsy, you might like the feeling of staying in a safari tent or a bell tent, a more luxurious version of a traditional tent stay. Other folk might prefer somewhere they can easily dump grubby gear and stash walking boots, in which case a lodge with a porch is the easiest option.

  • The bright lights and attractions of Blackpool are excellent for families with kids to entertain. Family-friendly glamping accommodation is easy to find, and glamping sites with play areas, games equipment or woods to scavenge will help to keep the little ones busy. It'll feel like a real adventure staying in something like a bell tent with easy access to the outside, but you'll also find plenty of comfy spaces for a good night's sleep.

  • History aficionados are likely to find Lancaster one of the most interesting Lancashire destinations. Most glamping accommodation is based in the countryside outside of the city, allowing you to stroll the city streets by day but soak up sunset views later on – out of season you can still do this from the warmth of a camping or glamping pod with windows.

  • Just because you’re going glamping doesn’t mean that you need to leave your dog out of the action. There are dog-friendly glamping sites around Lancashire, including accommodation such as shepherd’s huts with full-sized beds. Some well-prepared sites even have a dog shower to deal with grubby paws fresh from walks in the Forest of Bowland or on Pendle Hill.

What you can do in Lancashire

  • Pick a glampsite near Blackpool and you'll be within easy reach of all sorts of family attractions, including Blackpool Zoo and the Blackpool Pleasure Beach theme park. You can also catch a show in the grand Blackpool Tower Ballroom and ride around the city on the iconic Blackpool Tramway.

  • The Turbay Woods Owl & Bird of Prey Sanctuary, four miles south of Preston, runs flying displays and handling experiences. Watch feathered creatures like falcons glide through the sky and visit the aviaries, which have over 90 birds of prey.

  • Take a beach day in Morecambe, a seaside town with a scenic promenade. Alternatively, look for glamping accommodation near St Anne’s Beach, between Blackpool and Lytham Hall, for sand dunes to explore and access to a boating lake in Lytham.

Here’s how

Begin by checking out the many different types of glamping in Lancashire. You may fancy the excitement of a tent-based holiday in a bell tent or a safari tent. If you want a slightly more soundproof option or the privacy of four walls, a camping or glamping pod is a good pick.
