What to do near Chessington

  • Head to Hampton Court Palace, a Grade I-listed architectural feat, to learn about the history of King Henry VIII while glamping in Chessington. It was his favourite residence and one of just two surviving palaces out of the several he owned. King William III later rebuilt and expanded the complex with an aim to make it as grand as the Palace of Versailles.

  • Have a flutter at Sandown Park Racecourse, which organises six big horse races annually. Just five minutes outside Chessington, it’s a close canter from your glamping site. Check the website for the events calendar – the venue also plays host to concerts and other happenings.

  • There are a couple of country parks to visit when glamping in Chessington. Castle Hill has deer, old earthworks and woodland to see, while Horton – the former grounds of five psychiatric hospitals – is now home to Hobbledown Children's Farm's folklore-themed adventure playgrounds.

  • Not had enough of green spaces yet? Over in Esher there’s the Claremont Landscape Garden, one of the earliest surviving English horticultural settings of its style. It still has the same glorious 18th-century layout as when it was first created.
