Some people prefer to keep their holidays very basic and remote indeed. Some people do not – and seek a spot with excellent leisure facilities, spotless amenities and customer-friendly approach… the better to get on with the important aspects of a holiday without stressing about the essentials. If this too is you, make your way to Manor Wood Country Park in green Cheshire countryside, where there’s loads to do on site, and where the amenities are so immaculate they’ve been given awards. Off site is pretty pleasing too, as Manor Wood is an easily accessible 25 minutes’ drive from Chester, Chester Castle and Chester Racecourse – and Chester Zoo, so say the kids, who’ll doubtless point out that their grownups can buy zoo tickets on site too. The park is in a nicely rural setting, home to two fishing lakes that adults and families can cast off at, and to a vast range of leisurely options indoors and out. The outdoor pool opens from the beginning of May – whatever the weather; a climbing frame and play area are in the grounds and a games room with pool, table football and table tennis is indoors to take care of any inclement times. Back outside, tennis courts are available free of charge to all customers. A minute’s drive or half a mile’s stroll from Coddington, Manor Wood is surrounded by Cheshire and Nottinghamshire villages to pick up local produce and picnic bits and pieces. Make time/room too for a foray to the Lakeside Café on several occasions during your stay, for breakfast, snacks and light lunches to have indoors or outside while the kids investigate the play area; the café building also has free wifi, takeaway options and a small shop selling essentials and caravan supplies. Dogs are welcome too... so much so that they have their own section on the menu... Those who prefer things just a little quieter on their countryside holiday are invited to book from Monday to Friday in low season, to soak up the peaceful Cheshire surrounds in a more peaceful manner.

Kedvelték: Pool was lovely, not too packed with children at weekends due to booking system, off peak last week pool was perfect and warm from solar panels with back up system. All facilities clean and easy to use. Little shop for treats and some basics Food in cafe was exceptional, beautifully presented, need to cook burgers slower as they were very dark outside but perfect inside , nice choice of food. Good salad mix. Friendly site. we visited the monkey forest trentham 1 hrs drive away arranged to feed them breakfast booked when slots available in november to visit in may fabulous experience they had babies and young which were entertaining and so very cute !! Our tower for electric and water was cracked and leaking we forgot to tell them .it was like that when we arrived . There is a grass area for football and a tennis court, the dog walking area is perfect with poo bin and welly wash area. Wildlife in abundance especially canada geese , ducks etc due to fishing lake.

Nem kedvelték: Needed to ring to get gate opened when we needed to leave at 8am for monkey experience but they were happy to oblige.wifi slow and kept cutting off .

Kedvelték: The on site shop for essential items, the restaurant if you don’t want to make anything. The bonus of the swimming pool.

Kedvelték: Lovely family site. Lots to do for all children of different ages. Toilets and shower facilities immaculate.

Nem kedvelték: Expensive compared to other sites but not stopped us re booking. We have visited manor wood 3 times now and will book in future also

Kedvelték: Clean toilets and showers. Very picturesque.

Nem kedvelték: Not for families with small children. Was a very loud site with people up blasting music past midnight waking my children up throughout the night. I spoke with reception and they did take it serious but they can only do things from after 10pm so we had lots of shouting, screaming even swearing children running round our tent whilst our children were trying to get to sleep. The children that were running around the site swearing and being nasty to other children were residents with caravans on the site. They had no respect for others on the site and were running around the tent and car even when asked to stop. A child nearly ran into our firepit when we were roasting marshmallows as they just didnt have any respect for others areas. Luckily i screamed to stop before they got hurt! One of the children punched my son in the eye when they were playing football right infront of our tent. The shower facilities were a short walk and only one block for all guests as well as those who use the pool. As for the pool when we booked on pitch up it said the pool wasn't open. When we arrived I heard a member of staff say to a resident that the pool was open early. When I asked at reception she just pulled a funny face and said sorry! Would of been nice to of known they were opening the pool earlier as the children would of enjoyed that. For £180 for an electric tent pitch was very overpriced as no special facilities were used such as the pool as we weren't aware that it was open.

Kedvelték: We really enjoyed our stay. The park is very nicely presented and the facilities are very clean and modern. The staff were very friendly. Our pitch was right by one of the parks which was very convenient, and the children enjoyed it, they also loved spotting the wildlife. We felt the park by the touring pitches could do with an update but the children had no complaints. Can't comment on the pool as we visited before it was open for the season. There was a decent WiFi signal for emails and general googling. Easy travelling distance to a few locations such as the ice cream farm.

Nem kedvelték: Some of the paths around the site had become very muddy and slippery due to recent weather. The dog walk had become a giant mud pit, so we gave up on this. Obviously the site can't help the wet weather and this is probably not as much an issue when it's drier. However I felt the newer paths were less likely to get muddy and the ones affected could be improved upon. However we still really enjoyed our stay, I will just make sure we all have wellies next time. It's clear the site is well maintained and constantly being improver upon, and we would definitely return.

There’s plenty to do around Manor Wood for those days you’re not mooching around Chester (although do mooch around Chester for some considerable time too.) Drive about five minutes’ south for walks around the green space lying between Stretton and Clutton; a golf course and Stretton Watermill are here to stop off at. Beeston Castle, 20 minutes’ drive away just outside Tarporley, is a site of fortress ruins on a sandstone plain with spectacular views – across eight counties and over to Wales. Kids now revolting after watermill and castle time? The rides, farm and many flavours of The Ice Cream Farm adventure park are within 15 minutes’ drive.
