Stunning countryside, spectacular views and a whole lot of get-up-and-go… If that ticks everything off your getaway bucket list, make tracks for Newhaven Holiday Park, a family-friendly site in the tiny hamlet of Newhaven 20 minutes’ drive from Derbyshire's Buxton. Inside the Peak District National Park, Newhaven is a top spot for energetic types: the High Peak trail passes less than a mile from the site, and you can pick up the Tissington Trail at nearby Hartington Station (or start from Ashbourne, 20 minutes away, to do the whole thing). If you’re of an even more active persuasion – with a daredevil streak perhaps – there’s rock climbing, potholing and caving half an hour away in the High Peak area of the park. You don’t have to go clambering over hills and dales to get a good look at the Peak District though: this site is in a secluded spot, with views over the countryside and plenty of trees and shrubs for shelter. Kick back and relax among all the greenery while the kids run riot in the playground, then potter over to the on-site shop for books, magazines, toys and souvenirs. Ready for something to munch? The site shop also stocks food, drinks and fresh local dairy produce. For anything more substantial, pull a chair up to the table at one of the many restaurants within 20 minutes of Newhaven.

喜欢: The park was great for the children and staff were friendly at check in- helped to direct/show you to plot allocated. The toilet and shower facilities were new and kept very clean. Ideal location for heading onto Tissington Trail or High Peaks.

不喜欢: The showers were new and kept clean, but were cold and stayed on for 20 seconds so was frustrating when trying to shower and then keep pressing the button. Also the pitch wasnt the best, we paid for hardstanding with electric and it was all over the place- we had to get several blocks to try and level out, this took ages. Which may seem minor but when trying to entertain children and sort out setting up, this normally takes 10 minutes at best, not nearly an hour as trying to find more blocks to help level the caravan. I get certain sites will state hard ground pegs or motor mover etc but this site should let people know the ground is massively out and make sure you take some blocks( not just one or two either). There was also x factor auditions gone 11pm which im all for everyone having a good time but they really couldn't sing! Other sites have introduced quiet times which i think is fair for everyone then. Having young children I wouldnt let them go screaming around a site at 11pm. i really wanted to like the site as great location and easy to find but i dont think we will be using them again.

不喜欢: One way system could’ve been slightly different as e high lanes to have every other one way Our pitch had a show caravan which was a nice shelter but also a bit imposing

喜欢: Site was clean. Staff welcoming

不喜欢: Caravan pitch was very uneven took 45mins after arriving for staff to find bricks to help level caravan, which was unhelpful in the pooring rain and a grumpy child and dog. We were told we were on the worsed pitch on the site by staff, we then asked to move pitches and told no.

This is Austen country, so you can barely turn around without tripping over some stately pile of bricks... If you fancy gliding around as if you own the place, adopt an air of wealth and superiority and head to Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall (with its Museum of Childhood), Hardwick Hall, Chatsworth House and The Old Manor, all within roughly half an hour’s drive of Newhaven, then chauffeur yourself over to Melbourne Hall, just under an hour away. Hols with kids are pretty easy in these parts too, as there’s absolutely oodles to distract them with within an hour of the site: make your way to Matlock for the Heights of Abraham alpine cable car and Gulliver’s Kingdom theme park (and the Crich Tramway Museum, Peak District Mining Museum and Masson Mills for some grownup sanity). Also get along to Buxton for treetop adventuring at Go Ape; underground exploration at Poole’s Cavern, and Alton Towers for some adrenaline-fuelled rides. If traipsing around on land isn’t really floating your boat, spend a day (or two) at Carsington Water, less than half an hour away, for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating and fishing, or head to WaterWorld (just outside Stoke-on-Trent) for some indoor waterpark splashing around.
