Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

喜欢: The Pub was perfect very good food! And lovely people.

不喜欢: The campsite is along a very heavy trafic road, it was very noisy for a camper van (non isolated). Maybe for a motorhome it fits.

喜欢: It's very clean and tidy, very peaceful. Central for most places. The food in the pub is very nice, the fish and chips are amazing and the salads are fresh and tasty too, oh and the ales are brilliant too

喜欢: Friendly reception and large clean pitches Definitely recommend eating at the pub as the food and service was excellent at what is obviously a popular pub Perfect stopover thank you We will definitely return and stay again

不喜欢: There is only one WC and shower combined which may be a problem if site was full However shower and WC very clean

喜欢: Lovely little site, clean and tidy. A friendly welcome from the landlord. Nice seating area in the centre. We enjoyed a walk to the head of the thames but the initial part of the walk does mean walking on a road with fast traffic. This would be tricky with children. We had an evening meal in the pub. The food was really really good! There is road and train noise but it didn't impact on our stay.

不喜欢: The single use loo and shower room isn't enough for the number of people on the site. We opted not to use the shower in order not to prevent people using the loo! Not a problem when stopping for one night but a consideration for a longer stay. A washing up area would be useful too.

喜欢: Lovely quiet location. Very friendly staff and other campers! Very clean site too!

不喜欢: There was only one toilet and shower, as we were in our caravan it didn’t impact our break at all!

不喜欢: Facilities Just one toilet and shower to share between all the campsite didn’t seam enough and made you feel rushed in case someone was waiting

喜欢: Hidden behind the excellent Thames Head Inn. Good food and beer. No noise could be heard, so very peaceful stay. Pitches are all gravel hard standing, each with EHU and TV point (though we found signal coverage good).

不喜欢: Pitches are a bit tight if you are using an awning. Had to park the car away from the van but that was not a problem. Ideal for camper/motorhome call caravan.

There are plenty of stately homes near The Thames Head Inn if you want to get a feel for the history of the area, with Newark Park, Sudeley Castle, Dyrham Park, Bowood House and Berkeley Castle all within 45 minutes’ drive of the site. TV addict? Visit Chavenage House, 15 minutes from Thames Head, which you may recognise as the Poldark family home of Trenwith from the eponymous BBC drama… If you’re more at home in the outdoors, explore some of the many gardens within 20 minutes of the site, rub elbows with the royals on a trip to Highgrove Gardens at the private residence of Charles and Camilla or, on a grander scale, stroll around the national arboretum at Westonbirt. Got kids trailing along? Get the best of both worlds at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Garden – meet the giraffes, lions and camels, then wander through the gardens at the Victorian manor house. If that’s not hitting the spot, take the kids to learn more about the Romans at Corinium Museum in Cirencester or give them Harry Potter vibes on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway. If all of this sounds a little too sedate for you, never fear... Have a high-octane day at the Gloucestershire Rally School or test your mettle with a trip to Head for Heights – that adrenaline will be pumping in no time.
