Make tracks to Ballyroe Glamping for cosy accommodation deep in the west Cork countryside. There's some particularly great greenery to be seen in this splendidly rural spot, including views over neighbouring farmland and well-kept gardens that you're welcome to explore. These smart shepherd's huts are fully self-contained and come equipped with a well-stocked kitchenette, a private bathroom and a spacious queensized bed. There's also plenty of scope for outdoor living – don't hesitate to fire up a barbecue or campfire. Comfy outdoor furniture is supplied for alfresco evening relaxation when the weather is dry (although the huts' interiors have been kitted out to be mightily cosy even when it's not). You'll be settling down in a secluded location, so keep an ear out for visiting birdlife (and for the odd cluck from the friendly hens that call this place home). Ballyroe Glamping's spacious grounds have a veg patch, lake and playground to explore too. The folk that run this place have many strings to their bow, including producing speciality bread – feel free to get in touch and order your favourite loaf (please give them 24 hours’ notice). The site also sometimes plays host to creative arts and crafts workshops (designed with kids in mind, but hands-on grownups are more than welcome to tag along).

Llocs d'interès

New to the area? You're pretty sure to land on your feet if you head down to Leap (five minutes' drive), a small village at the northern end of scenic Glandore Harbour. A small waterfall decked out with colourful fairy houses should make the kids coo, while grownups can head to Conolly's, a live music venue, for pints, spirited singsongs and woodfired pizza. Further down the harbour and closer to the coast are the pretty villages of Glandore (10 minutes) and Unionhall (10 minutes), both of which have spectacular views over the water and boats. Head to the latter for the chance to tour an authentic Cork fish smokery – a fantastically flavoursome jaunt, but one which might require a fresh change of clothes afterwards. Also around is the Drombeg Stone Circle (15 minutes), an impressive relic from the Bronze Age that can be paired up with equally excellent stones at Reenascreena (15 minutes) for a nicely neolithic couple of hours. If you're looking to head out to the very edge of the Atlantic, bounce down to Baltimore (30 minutes) to tour its coastal castle and catch ferries out to remote Cape Clear or Sherkin Island.
