If you’ve ever thought that a riverside hammock could well be your happy place, say hello to the Haute-Loire site Camping La Rochelambert. Settle in here and you’ll be staying in a peaceful site by the banks of the Borne river, with hammocks to hang out in and spots where the small sorts can snag crayfish in the water. This amiable Auvergne site is in a wildlife haven with a chilled-out family vibe that comes from giving the grownups plenty of space to relax and the kids plenty to keep them occupied. Games of tennis, basketball and pétanque can all be convened on the courts, and there’s a playground with added bonus bouncy castle in the summer months. Treasure hunts, crafts and games are set up five days a week in summer, giving parents the chance to join yoga classes, peruse the visiting market or snooze in prep for the evening entertainment. Keep your cool through all this with regular dips in the outdoor pool (or the paddling pool for les enfants) and by snaffling ice creams from the shop. If you need something a bit more substantial to eat, the snack bar serves up takeaway food (pizzas, fries, salads and the like) in summer. At other times it’s a five-minute drive to Saint-Paulien, a petite place that packs plenty into its streets, including a supermarket, bakery and cafés. Travelling with messy eaters? Camping La Rochelambert has two shower and toilet blocks and a launderette to keep you and your kit fresh.

Llocs d'interès

Start your sojourn with a stroll up to your local castle, Château de la Rochelambert, a splendid Renaissance number with fairytale turrets and lots of stone carvings to seek out. If that’s given you a hunger for more history, aim also for the medieval village of Allègre and the spectacular clifftop fortress of Polignac (both 15 minutes' drive). The big sight around here is Le Puy-en-Velay (20 minutes), the place where pilgrims across the centuries have started their epic expedition to Santiago de Compostela on the St James's Way. The cathedral and pink Madonna statue are worth seeking out, as is the 10th-century version of a skyscraper – a church built in an improbable location atop a rock. Outdoorsy types should find plenty of fresh-air frolics around here, too – there’s an adventure park a few minutes’ walk from the site and a karting centre and waterpark five minutes’ drive away in Saint-Paulien. Hikers should make the half-hour drive to the Beaume waterfall or the Gorges d’Allier; there’s also a little tourist train here for those who’d rather give their legs a rest.

Parcel·la de gespa sense electricitat

Em va agradar: L’accueil de Magalie et Michel ainsi que de leur équipe est au Top.

No em va agradar: La gestion de l’emplacement par l’équipe pitchup. En effet , à notre arrivée les propriétaires nous ont annoncé leur incapacité à nous proposer un emplacement à la hauteur de ce que l’on avait réservé sur le site pitchup. Du coup pour nous dépanner, ils nous ont placé sur un espace nature…
