Booking a France seaside break in Brétignolles sur Mer? Firstly – how sensible as there are 13 kilometres of beach here; secondly, consider this well-placed and family-friendly site for your Vendée coast stay. A five-minute drive from a sandy beach, Camping La Trevillière is a three-hectare park with a peaceful and family vibe with excellent facilities for all ages. The fine big outdoor pool will likely be your first stop; there's a paddling pool for the tiddlers too, and a roomy solarium for blissful grownup basks afterwards. (And in the boggling event of the Vendée sun going AWOL for a spell? A covered and heated pool is to hand too.) Active guests and their small sorts can check out the miniature golf and pétanque court, or zip along to July and August entertainment and activities including a kids' club and sports tournaments. After all that, toddle along to the bar for a cool drink; snacks and takeaways can be picked up here in high season too. Brétignolles sur Mer town is a kilometre and a half or about five minutes' drive away for shops, restaurants and further supplies; the market is on Thursday and Sunday mornings.

Vendée coast, beaches, creeks and coastline are all waiting at Bretignolles sur Mer and around this stretch of Atlantic coast: as well as Bretignolles under five minutes/ drive away, the site is within easy reach of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and Saint-Hilaire, each about 25 minutes' away. Les Sables-d'Olonne is within half an hour. Recommended nearby options from the Camping La Trevillière team include horse riding nearby, bike trips to the Sauzaie dunes three kilometres away, and trips around the famed Vendée salt marshes that were once a major source of income in the region. If doing this last, book a boat trip via Les Salines 25 minutes' drive away, to meet the local salt producers, spot marshland wildlife and look for the secret paths of smugglers of yore. Tours run from April to September; find out more at the tourist office in Bretignolles sur Mer. A bit further afield, try a trips to Ile de Noirmoutier about an hour and 10 minutes' north, or head inland to the historic theme park of Puy du Fou, about the same distance to the east.
