  • Pop-up Peak District site on the edge of Chatsworth Estate
  • A 10-minute drive from Bakewell and the Monsal Trail
  • Baslow's village pubs and amenities within a few minutes' walk
Ever looked at Derbyshire’s splendid Chatsworth Estate and thought you might fancy a stay in such salubrious surroundings? Well now here’s your chance to do just (well, almost) that… Chatsworth Camping at Baslow is a pop-up site that’s just on the edge of Baslow village and on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate. All in all that makes this a mighty handy location for a Peak District holiday. The main highlight is the option of taking a lovely 40-minute stroll from your pitch to the estate for a day at the stately home, farmyard and adventure playground, but there’s plenty more nearby including Bakewell, the Monsal Trail and Haddon Hall – and of course all sorts of walks and bike rides around the lovely national park scenery. Staying on the edge of the village is handy too, as that means a playground, a small supermarket and some good pubs just a few minutes’ walk away. Grab some bits for the grill while you’re there, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted on the pitches (as long as they’re safely raised off the ground; bricks are provided for this if needed). Although gazebos and pup tents aren’t allowed you’re welcome to bring along deckchairs and picnic furniture to get comfy on your pitch. Facilities provided by the site include portable toilets, shower trailers, a drinking water tap and washing-up facilities. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to come along for a stay here but they’ll need to be kept on a leash (for the sake of local farm animals and nesting birds) and cleaned up after.

Local attractions

Where else to start but at the Chatsworth Estate? Take the 40-minute walk from Baslow village or drive over in five minutes for a full day exploring the stunning house and grounds, tackling the adventure playground or meeting animals at the farm (and picking up bits at the farm shop). For more smart buildings, continue on to Tudor-era Haddon Hall (20 minutes’ drive) or Bolsover Castle (half an hour). Eyam (10 minutes) isn't quite as fancy but it's a fascinating place where you can hear the story of a village that sealed itself off to stop the spread of the plague. The natural surroundings are pretty spectacular too, of course, especially if you head to some of the top spots like Speedwell Cavern or Heights of Abraham (both 25 minutes) or Dovedale (40 minutes). If you’d like to take in some of that scenery while on a walk or bike ride, the Monsal Trail is a good place to start – handily, the 8.5-mile traffic-free trail finishes up in Bakewell (10 minutes), a well-known hub of bakeries and pudding shops.
