  • Simple and scenic Peak District site just off the A515
  • Five minutes' drive from Hartington and 15 minutes from Buxton
  • Close to the Tissington and High Peak trails, bike hire and a bus stop
Set your satnav for Derbyshire – and specifically for this pretty park – if you're on the hunt for a simple yet scenic spot with high-grade hiking opportunities. Walkers are pretty sure to like the lay of the land at New Vincent Farm Caravan and Camping, as are cyclists – it's less than five minutes' stroll to Parsley Hay bike hire centre, where you can pick up conventional off-road two-wheelers as well as tandems, dog trailers and accessible models. Those arriving by car can pull right up to the pitches at New Vincent Farm Caravan and Camping – they're green, spacious and set out with plenty of room between them. Stays at this site come with some mighty fine views, but do be aware that the pitches here may not be totally flat (as you might expect in this hilly part of the world). This is an ace base if you want to leave the car in situ once you've settled down – as well it being easy to get around on foot or by bike, there's a bus stop on the main road (handy when heading back to base after long days in walking boots). Loos are available here, but it's worth planning around the fact that there aren't any on-site showers. Dogs and barbecues are both allowed. Some top-notch local amenities are on hand in the surrounding area – Hartington (five minutes' drive or 20 minutes by bike) has a pub, café, farm shop and tea room to tempt you, while Buxton (15 minutes' drive) is home to a range of delis, fine food shops and restaurants.

Local attractions

Spend days traipsing through miles of countryside on the Tissington or High Peak trails – both are flat and manageable routes that run along old railway lines that were bought and converted into traffic-free paths by the Peak District National Park in the 1970s. Take the Tissington Trail south and you'll end up in Ashbourne (20 minutes' drive), a market town with plenty of outdoor kit shops where you can pick up extra gear. The landscape hereabouts is arguably as interesting below ground as it is above it – earmark an hour or two for subterranean sauntering at Thor's Cave (20 minutes), or head to the Heights of Abraham (25 minutes) and make a day of it. The smart spa town of Buxton (15 minutes), meanwhile, has an impressive opera house, well-kept botanical gardens and distinctive Devonshire Dome to admire.

Liked: Views and beautiful location. Very big site to allow for space between tents.

Disliked: Toilets ran out of toilet roll and hand wash and after 3 days the smell was unbearable before they were cleaned.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nice big field with healthy green grass, great views, we were pleased to secure a last minute booking on the bank holiday weekend. Lots of interesting attractions nearby and handily situated next to the Tissington trail 68, a lovely flat cycle track.

Disliked: There was no water supply for a couple of hours on the Sunday. The price was similar to that charged by a site with better facilities i.e. there were no showers. Also the toilets weren’t clean and often ran out of loo roll, there was a sewage smell on the approach.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nice location next to good cycle route. Toilets we're good and kept clean and stocked with toilet paper.

Disliked: Campsite was way overbooked (likely due to bank holiday) and we were kept up until 2am by drunk people shouting & singing. No contact number to call and report this and no staff seen on site the whole stay.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really spacious campsite in a great location for the peaks, lovely views and lots of flexibility with pitching. Decent toilets and water point.

Disliked: Showers would be great, some more lights around the campsite (e.g. motion sensor ones) would make trips to the toilet at night easier. Also a wider area for washing up with a sink would make for a nicer stay.
