  • Dog-friendly site with gorgeous walks from the door
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell; 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Dog-friendly pub in the village of Foolow, 10 minutes’ walk away
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the door and a short drive from the likes of Bakewell (home of Bakewell tarts) and Chatsworth House… who could turn down a Peak District getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? The site was originally run back in the 70s, as an addition to the then working Brosterfield Farm, before it ceased trading in 2003. The owners bought the farm in 2009 and slowly renovated it into their family home and the existing site – the surrounding acres are owned by themselves and farmed by the local farmer. What a stunning place it is, too: the field is quiet and surrounded by farmland. The main thing is that it’s small and low-key, as the owners want the experience to feel as natural as possible. There are modern showers and toilets. Dogs (up to two per pitch) are also welcome. There are some gorgeous walks from the door – and if you’re keen to dabble in other activities, mountain biking, cycling, shopping, taking photos or simply finding a spot to read a book or sip a drink will be very easy. The local pub is handily dog-friendly (inside and out). It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the village of Foolow, a pretty and traditional place with lots of walking trails, a duck pond and the aforementioned country pub with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. Another pub is half an hour’s walk away from the site, and has views over the village.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely clean site and facilities. Very picturesque.

Disliked: Apologies to other campers that we disturbed as we were unaware that we couldn’t fly drones or play music, our mistake. The drones were up for a max of 30 minutes. We turned the music that was also on for no longer than 30 minutes off straight away when asked and apologised. I think our VW group is getting mixed up with 2 couples that were very drunk, loud, playing music ( that they were not asked to turn off ) dancing in the field and allowing there 3 dogs to roam the site peeing all over everyone’s belongings. The ‘partying’ was in no way connected to us, it was the camping guests with the unruly dogs.

From the manager: Hi Michelle Thank you for your review and to be fair to you and your group, I will clarify, whilst I could hear your music, I walked over to see you and you were a lovely group of guests and very polite and turned off the music immediately. I was also told from other guests that you were very respectful and were very quiet from 9pm (not that you were loud, after the music). I was not aware of the other guests and their dogs, otherwise I would have kindly asked them keep their dogs to their area and be respectful of other guests. It is very frustrating as a site owner when guests decide to not respect all peoples stays and when we ask for dogs to be kept under control. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for being so understanding.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely big open field and new facilities.

Disliked: Maybe coming in to introduce yourself to the guests and explain the do’s and don’ts and rules. We turned the music off straight away when asked and sorry didn’t realise I couldn’t fly a drone. However the two couples who were camping opposite in tents kept there music on very loud and were dancing around extremely drunk!! Also letting there black dogs run around and jumping in and out of our £50k Volkswagen vans!! And weeing everywhere. If having a sit around meal with friends is classed as being out of control then perhaps they need to get a life and book into a saga holiday for pensioners.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. The do and donts of our site, as are all other campsite clearly written on Pitchup and they are also on a sign within our grounds. I had already been around the site twice that evening to say hello to guests. It is again clearly written that drones are not allowed. We do promote a quiet campsite and thank you for your understanding for turning the music off that I could personally hear from the grounds of my own house. We do also ask for all dogs to kept under control.

Liked: Very nice and clean kept place would definitely recommend to friends

Disliked: Was told no drones or loud music but someone had a drone and was drinking and partying

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review. We don't allow drones or music and we did speak to the guests in under 10 minutes of this music and they did turn it off immediately and apologised. I was told by further guests, that the guests retired to bed by 9pm.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great location, new shower block and hot showers.. oh and very clean. As already mentioned, good walks from the campsite and the pub up the road was very good. Basic campsite with peace and quiet in mind:) A small recommendation is more hooks in the showers, this would be good.

Disliked: A group, VW club I think thought they’d book a Saturday party night.. ignored the rules from pitching up! Drone buzzing around our heads, then the music started! Didn’t care about anyone else.. Penny heard the noise and swiftly dealt with it. I think groups who are ignorant should be split up or asked to leave as it’s not fair on others…

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review and I am so glad you had a lovely stay with us. We are in the process of obtaining more hooks :) we do very much value feedback and have already started to implement some guests suggestions, so thank you. We did as you say speak to the guests and they did turn it off immediately and apologised sincerely and I was told they did go to bed by 9pm. We did not feel for this reason they needed to be asked to leave. We do promote a a quiet site and were glad they respected this when asked.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful location set back from the main road in a very peaceful spot. Great modern facilities, including lovely shower block and toilets. Very well maintained facility and a lovely addition to great customer service was meeting the owner in the morning walking her dog who was checking in to see how our day was. Pub about 10 minute walk up the road with lovely food. Our kids had a lot of fun staying here!

Disliked: There was an issue with the electrics as the shower block is new so the power tripped a couple of times. The owner wanted to make sure we were okay the next morning and explained they have found the problem which will be fixed in the next couple of days. Even with that happening it wasn’t an issue for us as the place overall was really lovely. as this is a new site that has only just opened. It would be great to include a few activities for kids in the grounds. Just a small play area with a swing and slide would go down very well. Other than that plenty of room for playing with a ball, we had a lovely stay!
