Quiet rural site (added by manager 08 jun 2019)
Lots of space to spread out (added by manager 08 jun 2019)

  • Peaceful rural site two miles from the village of Wickwar
  • Half an hour's drive from Bristol and 40 minutes from Bath
  • Dog-friendly site in a handy location for both M4 and M5 motorways
A laidback rural spot with convenient access to a couple of the country’s most famed cities – if that sounds like a fine mix for a break, steer your travels towards The Daisy Paddock, a peaceful little place in the Gloucestershire countryside a couple of miles from the village of Wickwar. Spacious this place is, but stuffed with people it is not – numbers on site are kept on the low side to make sure all guests have plenty of space for all those essential countryside activities (barbecues, campfires, epic football games, lengthy periods spent in a deckchair with a brew or two…). If you want to keep country vibes going on your days out that’s easily done, for this is a fine area in which to take a walk or a bike ride, with plenty of quiet paths to potter along and pubs to refresh in as you go (the nearest being a 40-minute amble away in Wickwar). Squeezing in a bit of city life as well? Bristol city centre’s about half an hour away by car and the elegant streets of Bath around 40 minutes. Back at base, the offerings are simple but should keep life ticking along smoothly: drinking water, a toilet and an Elsan point are all provided, and you’re welcome to bring along whatever combination of kids and dogs makes up your travelling entourage.

Liked: Lovely field and if you like trains, right next to the tracks. Soporific sounds of them passing by but not aware of any during the night. Beautifully kept, minimal but clean facilities. Couldn't ask for more for 1 nights stop over and the price. Didn't need WiFi so can't comment, likewise ref kids but am sure they'd love the space and it seemed very safe.

Liked: Close to where we needed to be. As my son was doing a sponsored walk from beachy head to Bristol suspension bridge. For My Black Dog.

Disliked: Toilets and shower not the cleanest. No hot water for shower or washing up. Only spent one night. It was ok for the night. Would not have stayed they be choice.

From the manager: Thanks for your review but as to your comment about the showers with no hot water but we don't have any showers on site so not sure what you used we are a off grid site so only have a toilet which are cleaned daily as as for you low score for accommodation you stayed in your own motorhome so if you don't like it I suggest you get a different one I am not sure reviewed the correct site

Liked: The daisy paddock was the perfect stay for us. The owner was really friendly and welcoming. The toilet was spotless. The pitches were generously spaced out. There are trains going past during the day but it didnt bother us. We popped in to Yate town centre . Loads of great shopping and eateries. Theres a pub called the rose & crown near the campsite which has a great menu for either sitting in or take away, very reasonably priced. We had a great nights sleep it was very peaceful. Will definatly stay again if we are in the area. It was £10 well spent.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Little campsite in a countryside location. Basic facilities, clean toilet and chemical disposal, recylcing bins. Close to Bristol and Bath.

Disliked: Could hear loud music from a near by outside rave, not the campsite's fault but it did spoil what would have been a peaceful night.

Local attractions

Bristol’s a mighty fine place to spend the day – especially if you’re up for filling the kids’ brains with clever stuff without them noticing. There are excellent hands-on displays at We The Curious science museum, relics from the past at M Shed and glimpses into Victorian life at Brunel’s SS Great Britain (complete with sounds and smells and a mast to climb if you’re feeling brave). The city’s zoo and aquarium are worth a stop too, as are the many cafés and restaurants. Rather more genteel is Bath (40 minutes’ drive), which also makes for a great day out wandering along the famed Royal Crescent, surveying the Roman Baths and gliding along the river on a boat trip. Stylish sorts may also like to trace a bit of history through the garb on display at the Fashion Museum. Steering clear of cities for a bit? Plan instead for outings to Westonbirt Arboretum (25 minutes), Prince Charles’s pad Highgrove Royal Gardens (half an hour) or Prior Park Landscape Garden (40 minutes).
