  • Rural glamping stays in traditional grass meadows
  • In the hamlet of Norton Wood; Hay-on-Wye 25 minutes' drive
  • Views over the Welsh hills; located on the Black and White Trail
Deep in rural Herefordshire and with lovely views over the far-off Welsh hills, Glamping at the Homestead is a small-scale rural site that sits on a handsome tract of traditional grass meadows. Located in the tiny hamlet of Norton Wood, this farm site is in an excellent area for walking and cycling – there's an abundance of rights of way in the area, including the waymarked Black and White Trail which is directly accessible from site. A short wander away from base, you'll come across lots more highlights, including a number of attractive orchards, the Offa's Dyke Path and the gorgeous river Wye, where anglers can fish for chub, trout and salmon. The site's luxury fully-furnished bell tents are spacious, with individual kitchens, private seating areas and their own firepit and barbecue. All are located in a secluded perry meadow and set far apart for added privacy. The accommodation is ensuite, with private hot and cold water available in the form of a private vanity unit and shower and composting toilet unit. For further amenities, drive five minutes down the road to the local pub in Kinnersley or to the farm shop just off the A438 (10 minutes). Big built-up areas are few and far between in this part of the Herefordshire countryside, but you'll not be short of things to do if you head to the book town of Hay-on-Wye (25 minutes) or to Hereford (25 minutes), a handsome county town steeped in history and culture.

Local attractions

Join the Offa's Dyke path in Rhydspence (20 minutes' drive) to trot along the border between England and Wales, or take yourself off to Black Hill (40 minutes) to trek over bogs, mountains and spot birds of prey. The Brecon Beacons National Park is also within striking distance – steer yourself towards Llangorse (40 minutes) for a trip to the Welsh Crannog Centre, or get in touch with Bryngwyn Riding Centre (30 minutes) for horseback jaunts through the hills high above Hay-on-Wye. Camping in the company of kids? There are a fair few options for you here, from the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre in Kingswood (20 minutes) for fans of everything cute and cuddly to the paintball centre in Middle Cefn (40 minutes) for teenage tearaways. Herefordshire trips also make it easy to hark back to the olden days – to start with, there's Arthur's Stone (20 minutes), a prehistoric burial chamber, which is best followed up by a trip to the historic National Trust-run Weir Garden (15 minutes), Ludlow Castle (40 minutes) or the magnificent grounds of Witley Court and Gardens (an hour).
