  • Large touring site in Warwickshire, with 20 acres of lakes
  • Twycross Zoo 10 minutes’ drive; National Space Centre 35 minutes
  • Lake beaches for sailing, paddleboarding, fishing and windsurfing
Want to spend your holidays lakeside – perhaps relaxing as you wait for fish to bite or honing your paddleboarding skills? You can do all this and more at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges, a family-oriented touring site spread over 50 acres in the Warwickshire countryside. There are 20 acres of lakes here, so you can get up to a wide range of watersports, from boating and kayaking to windsurfing, plus the above-mentioned paddleboarding and fishing. Taster sessions may be available if you fancy trying out something new. There are also colourful pedalos shaped like flamingos, swans and dragons, so you can cut a fine figure on the lake. Fishing in the pools is included for one person in the group (and under 14s go free), and additional adults can join for just a short fee per day. Back on dry land, you can relax on the sandy lake beaches or head to the site’s 12-hole crazy golf course with a nautical theme. For the kids, meanwhile, there's a fab adventure playground, with a dedicated section for youngsters under five. Several picnic and barbecue areas are available, with café and pub catering a mile to the east in the pleasant town of Market Bosworth (five minutes’ drive). Dogs are welcome at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges, but they need to be kept on leads at all times. Please note that this site only accepts family groups and couples aged over 25. On-site facilities include a dedicated toilet and shower block, washing-up facilities, Elsan disposal, fresh water and waste disposal. Calor and Campingaz bottles are available for exchange.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (waterside)

Liked: Being lakeside was amazing to get out of the van straight into the water. I also really liked the friendly, relaxed response I got when asking about rules and timings for using the lake. I’m so used to accessing water being insanely strict with a list of restrictions. It was a welcome change to be treated like a responsible adult. I was told the timing of when there was a rescue team available, but ultimately, I was responsible for myself if I went in after that.

Disliked: I couldn’t get on the Wi-Fi much, but that didn’t really bother me.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (waterside)

Liked: The lakeside views were excellent, were we could watch the sailing boats and ducks on the water

Disliked: The pitch was flooded and the hard core was rutted as the substrate was mainly mud. This prevented us from erecting our awning as the ground was uneven and wet

Liked: Helpful staff. Well stocked shop.

Disliked: Very tired shower and toilet facilities. Understandably the recent rain and mud cannot be helped however the rest of the site was very drab and appeared in desperate need of TLC. The emphasis is clearly on the lakeside lodges side of the park.

Liked: The lodge side of the site is lovely to walk around

Disliked: Unkept pitches, weather cannot be helped but no drainage on pitch. We pulled up to ducks swimming on our pitch. Everywhere was thick mud! Toilets needed cleaning/updating.

Liked: The view of the lake was amazing from the super pitch. Lots of wonderful birds - swan, geese and ducks. It was a shame it was such bad weather as we’d like to have spent some time sitting by the waters edge or watching people on the lake.

Disliked: The place is obviously gearing up to becoming a lodge only destination and all of the budget is going on that side of the operation (we saw one for sale at £250k+) The pitches were in appalling condition with so many potholes they were waterlogged. The road through the pitches was also terrible and even the road to enter the camping side was full of craters - you have to drive around one massive hole just to get through the gate. At £40 a night for 6 nights we expect the upkeep to be impeccable.

Local attractions

Twycross Zoo (10 minutes’ drive) is home to almost 100 different species of animals, with a special focus on primates – from great apes like gorillas and orangutans, to monkeys – plus lemurs and meerkats. Younger children might like the immersive touch-and-feel activities in the Gruffalo Discovery Land. The kids may not be in school, but there are real-life history lessons at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (10 minutes). Here you can take a guided walk around the fields where the 1485 battle took place, learn about the War of the Roses and discover how King Richard III lost his life in the fray. There are also children’s hunts and talks. Leave the past behind and zoom ahead to the future (or at least into space) at Leicester’s National Space Centre (35 minutes). You can experience what it’s like inside the International Space Station, see a sample of moon rock and learn about the universe in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium.
