  • High-end glamping site set in spacious Northamptonshire meadows
  • A 10-minute drive from Towcester; half an hour from Milton Keynes
  • Smart accommodation with a logburner, hot tub and private washroom
Glamping, by its very nature, comes with a bit of style, but Jubilee Barn in rural Northamptonshire is perhaps among the most glittering of them all. With all you need for a premium-quality getaway in a sheltered outdoor location – including well-maintained private bathrooms and hot tubs for soothing soaks – it'll come as a welcome find indeed for those looking to totally unplug from everyday life. The pair who run the site are themselves keen travellers, so they know how to make newcomers feel welcome at Jubilee Barn. Little extras like extra-soft linen, heavy rugs and throws, a gas barbecue and an indoor logburning stove all add up to create a sense of understated, low-key luxury. If you don't want to see another person – except, perhaps the site staff dropping by for concierge service – you can easily tuck yourself away here for the duration of your stay. Meanwhile, those intending to roam the neighbouring countryside can lope through the trees Bucknell Woods near Silverstone (10 minutes' drive) or wander the waterways at Tove Wetland Pocket Park (10 minutes), just outside Towcester. The latter spot is also where to go for grocery shopping and a weekly local market. For more really rural food, you might also like to visit Porterswood Farm Shop (15 minutes).

Local attractions

There's adventure in almost every direction at Jubilee Barn – the sounds and sights of Silverstone (10 minutes), indoor skiing at Milton Keynes (30 minutes) and wartime code-breaking heritage at Bletchley Park (35 minutes) are all among the highlights, but there are also National Trust Properties like Stowe (15 minutes), canal tours in Banbury (20 minutes) and nature reserves like Farthinghoe (15 minutes) to keep you pleasantly occupied. If, instead of a whirlwind of sightseeing, you'd rather take tours at a slower pace, head out to the university city of Oxford (40 minutes) and punt your way around its colleges and cloisters. Once comfortably settled into a leisurely rhythm, you might like to take a stroll by the Thames in Port or Christ Church meadows before retiring to an old wood-panelled pub like The Eagle and Child, one-time watering hole of Tolkien and other literary luminaries. For sport, Cherwell Edge Golf Course (15 minutes), Climb Quest Milton Keynes (35 minutes) and Hinton Sky Diving Centre (15 minutes) are all nearby to help you stay in shape – although you'll need a head for heights for the last two options. Not your case? There’s always the skydive simulator at iFLY (35 minutes).
