  • A 10-minute drive to Hardwick Hall; Chatsworth House 35 minutes
  • Miles of walking and cycling trails from site; pubs five minutes’ walk
Can’t decide between Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire? Your worries are over with a stay at Silverhill Woodland Retreats – this well-established and superbly maintained campsite near Teversal borders both counties – and in fact you can spy three more from the top of Silverhill nearby. Surrounded by countryside, it has a peaceful location and yet is still easily accessible from main road routes. Customer service and superior facilities are the name of the game here – for it has a very glitzy loo block crafted from black marble, with thoughtful luxuries in it like hair dryers and complimentary toiletries. No need to worry about leaving anything at home either, as there is a shop on the site selling camping essentials, coffee and stuff you basically forgot to pack. There are ice creams on hand too, if the kids are behaving. You’ll find a play area on site for your younger offspring, as well as miles of walking and cycling trails directly from the campsite (pick up maps in reception). You can bring any four-legged friends to share in your hikes, or restrict your exercise to a leisurely stroll down to the local pub (five minutes’ walk) for decent grub and a pint.

Liked: Site warden was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area and a pleasure to have a conversation with was also brilliant with my daughter. Facilities were exceptionally clean good pitch size. We forgot our hard standing pegs and he went out of there way to open the shop to supply us with some.

Disliked: Possibly a little more lighting around site to walk dog of an evening not a dislike more future idea didn't stop us from walking them.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Park is tidy and well kept and the pitches are spacious. The toilet / shower etc facilities were immaculate and could not be faulted. Great walks across the road from the site, particularly if you have dogs.

Disliked: The approach roads (council) are a disgrace and full of potholes and particularly poor attempts at filling them. Not the best conditions for driving, never mind towing a caravan - not the sites fault at all but worth mentioning. Went to the onsite shop a couple of times but it was closed.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The size of the pitches were great. Very friendly reception. Enormous facilities very spacious and warm showers each with enclosed toilets. 10 minute to the local pub and 5 minutes to a lovely big park area for walking. Very quiet site despite it being busy and Easter with many different options for accommodation.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Love the facilities on site. The gentleman who greeted us on Saturday was amazing! He was very welcoming and helped us as it was our first trip with a caravan. Site is very well maintained and the on site washroom is perfect and much better than many other sites! Very clean and well kept. We also did a lovely walk from our door to hardwick hall and looped round the fields. Dog wash facilities was super handing on the day we went out because it was sooooo muddy.

Disliked: My only down side would be our pitch had a tree over handing which dripped a lot with the rain.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The 7 hour journey in stormy weather and long traffic delays were offset on arrival by the most welcome friendly site manager at the gate sometime after the office had closed. He had changed our grass pitch to hardstanding as the ground was so sodden. The toilet block was superb, clean, stylish and we for the first time experienced the individual shower rooms, spacious with shower, toilet and basin. I enjoyed not having to shield my clothing from the shower spray. The best I have ever seen. The remainder of the site was equally immaculate. Given the really wet weather over the weekend, the excellent facilities and friendliness certainly made a palpable difference.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: A great base for us for exploring the area. Pitch with Electric hook up and good facilities met with friendly welcome

Disliked: The toilets and showers were sometimes found very dirty - toilets were filthy and not flushed and shower floors muddy. This was left from other irresponsible campers!
