  • Family-run dairy farm and fishery with views over The Roaches
  • Short drive to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and Tittesworth Water
  • On-site farm shop and farm animals; 10 minutes' walk to two local pubs
Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a back-to-basics site on a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop and light up a barbecue (as long as it's kept off the grass). If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk way in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

Liked: Just had a fabulous wknd camp at this beautiful semi wild campsite. such beautiful scenery and lovely to hear n see the farm animals and wildlife. the toilets are clean and functional and handwash loo roll provided. there is a farm shop onsite for essentials and the like, we always buy farm eggs and the ones brought from the shop were the nicest I've ever had. also the phone signal is fantastic first time weve camped and been able to use 5g with no buffering. look forward to using this campsite on a regular basis.

Disliked: going home lol .

Liked: Simple site, nice views of the lake. Kids enjoyed feeding the donkeys. Toilets seemed to be checked day and night. Farm shop handy.

Disliked: No hot water, although this was stated, would have just made a difference.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: A lovely relaxing feel to this campsite. Nice and quiet with stunning views and walking distance to 2 Nice pubs. Loads of walking nearby. Our son enjoyed fishing although he didn't catch. Would absolutely return.

Disliked: If wet you will struggle with a van on the field so had to set up on the gravel around the lake but was actually fine.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review and kind comments, much appreciated - it was a shame that we had quite a lot of rain on the Friday that just wet the field again For anyone reading the reviews please note that we advertise only as a basic/wild camping site, hence the price structure. It does state on pitch-up that we are only on grass, we have a small amount of hardstanding but not on the camp field

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: On arrival we were greeted, told about which areas were more suitable for a camper van after the heavy rain and given a couple optoins. The ground in some areas was boggy under foot but nothing I wouldn’t expect from a heavy downpour. We opted to go with grass over hard standing as we’re confident in getting out again. With no designated pitch size we really did have a lot of space. Everyone there was super chilled out and the views of the lake and other well behaved dogs was a delight. The farm shop is well stocked and we chose to get some wood and have a fire pit which really made the evening even better. I was worried about being so close to the cow shed but it really wasn’t anything to worry about and always put a smile on my face when you could hear them. The owner was kind enough to also lend me a camp chair as one of ours turned out to be broken which was really kind. I’ve done a lot of music festivals In the past so didn’t know what to expect with the toilets but both my wife and I were really pleasantly surprised. Clean and tidy and warm which is most important when needing a wee at 1am! Overall was really pleased with our first visit here, especially as it was our first outing in our new micro camper and I am confident we will return!

Disliked: None!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great view

Disliked: Amenities are not great, and the area surrounding the pond was having work done, which meant time ground was uneven. The shop is handy, however skip buying the logs as they were wet and rotten.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, comments noted - we only advertise as a basic/wild camping site - our amenities are clean - we have battled with the ongoing rain all winter and had not been able to finish the drainage works we set out to do over the winter period which was explained and apologised for on arrival, on saying this the drainage work was in the far corner of the field and around the fishing pools which is a separate concern from the camping field and didn't affect the actual field - I'm sorry you had trouble lighting your fire, we have had no other complaints about our logs

Liked: Nice view

Disliked: Whole site was waterlogged, if I had known this before hand I wouldn’t have driven all the way there. Had to leave early.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Apologies, but with all the rain and storm Kathleen to deal with it has made it very difficult for the field as we do not have sufficient enough dry weather to get it sorted - we have now temporarily closed the field and just allowing campervans on our small section of hardstanding

If your idea of fun doesn't include days full of white-knuckle rollercoaster rides, another family-friendly option is Peak Wildlife Park (10 minutes).
