  • Small site with a family bell tent and a luxury pod
  • Within easy reach of Norwich, the Norfolk Broads and sandy beaches
  • Private shower rooms with toilets, firepits and an outdoor kitchen
Ever wondered what a pocket-sprung mattress bed with soft cotton sheets, hollow-fibre pillows and a big cosy duvet feels like on a glamping trip? Then, have a serious think about booking your next break with Old College Glamping. The site has a big, five-metre-wide family bell tent, fully furnished with plush towels, robes and slippers, bean bags, fairy lights inside and out, a coolbox and kettle. Outside, there’s a picnic bench with a parasol and a firepit. Their pod, six by three metres, is just as splendid… It has a kingsize bed, kettle, mini fridge, coffee maker, Bluetooth speaker, underfloor heating, towels, robes, slippers, comfy chairs, a Smart TV with Netflix and a chimenea. Both options have plug sockets with USB charging points, a kettle, bedding, crockery and cutlery, wifi and a charcoal barbecue. Guests can skip over to the secluded garden area, where there’s a shared outdoor kitchen with a gas hob and full-sized fridge-freezer with ice blocks ready to whack in your hamper for Prosecco picnics. There’s also a woodfired pizza oven, washing-up sink, toaster and an honesty shop for wood or charcoal. The converted horsebox has two shower rooms, flushing toilets and basins, one for each glamping accommodation.

Bell tent

Liked: Private field with only 2 pitches, private toilet and shower, close to lots of attractions. Helpful and friendly owners.

Disliked: Close to the A47 so noisier than I had hoped.

Local attractions

Sandwiched snugly between the Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve and the Norfolk Broads National Park, there’s easy access to waterside walks, bike rides, wildlife spotting opps and watersports. Catch a bus or a local riverboat into Norwich city centre for weeks' worth of attractions, from peregrine falcon spotting at the old castle to peering up at the city's cathedral steeple, or procuring lush local produce at the indoor market. The city's music and pub scene is worth checking out for gig and theatre listings too. Norwich rail station will get you to the Norfolk coastline in 30 minutes. There are the quieter beaches of Winterton and Horsey and the lively resort of Great Yarmouth, with its pleasure beach and the iconic Hippodrome Circus. Alongside the River Yare is the 35-mile Wherryman’s Way path, which ends in Great Yarmouth. Pick up one of the path's 12 circular walks if you don’t fancy the full stretch. There’s also a local snowsports club, 20 minutes' drive away, for skiing, snowboarding and tubing trails.
