  • Quiet glamping pod two miles from Middleton-in-Teesdale
  • In the North Pennines, 25 minutes’ walk from the Pennine Way
  • Walk to shops, cafés and takeaways; views over Teesdale and Lunedale
With far-reaching views over Teesdale and Lunedale in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the luxury glamping pod at Highside Farm is as scenic as it is peaceful. Graced by spectacular dark skies for stargazing and surrounded by plenty of wildlife, the pod has a private and peaceful atmosphere, whether you’re after a romantic retreat or a peaceful getaway. After spending the day trekking along the 268-mile Pennine Way, which is just 25 minutes’ walk away from the pod, snuggle up and stargaze (weather permitting) on the porch, which is completely undercover and provided with snuggle blankets. The decking has a bistro table, chairs and a dining set for alfresco evenings. If it’s a little chilly, light the firepit so you can keep warm while listening out for the local owls. The site supplies your first basket of logs and a starter pack for free. If you require more, they can be purchased on site (please don’t bring your own firewood). Named after one of the local reservoirs, the Grassholme luxury glamping pod sleeps two people. It has been fully equipped with a kitchen sink, breakfast bar, full-sized oven, two-ring induction hob, integrated fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and all utensils, pots, pans, mugs and glasses. There’s coffee, tea, sugar, cooking oil, vinegar, salt and pepper to get you started. Simply put, this is an excellent getaway for those who want to sit back and relax and explore the local walks. Go birdwatching at the local nature reserve, Hayberries Nature reserve (five minutes’ drive) or cycle the day away too. The market town of Barnard Castle is 15 minutes’ drive away and Middleton-in-Teesdale, around half an hour’s walk away, has shops, cafés and takeaways. Other features inside the pod include a two-seater sofa, a 30-inch TV with satellite, a USB charging point, underfloor heating and wifi. There’s an ensuite shower with a hairdryer and heated towel rail (towels are provided) and a comfy double bed (bedding is provided).

Grassholme camping pod

Liked: Myself and my partner had the pleasure of spending the weekend in this beautiful pod. It had everything we needed and more and the views are spectacular, especially in the evening when ya sat around the fire pit. It was perfect for us as it doesn’t have any other pods around it, meaning it’s peaceful and quiet. Helen and Mark the owners greeted us on arrival and where more than happy to suggest some good places to visit within the area. Would highly recommend this pod, we can’t wait to come back, hopefully for longer than a weekend next time.

Disliked: There was nothing we disliked, we couldn’t find a single fault with this place.

Grassholme camping pod

Liked: Wow. This pod far exceeded our expectations. We received an immediate welcome from our hosts who throughout our stay were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. The location of the pod is stunning and the pod is well equipped with quality goods and the owners seem to have thought of absolutely everything their guests may need to ensure a comfortable stay. The property is immaculate, the wi-fi excellent and I couldn’t fault anything about the place. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings with nature on your doorstep but with all the comforts of home. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the owners and they encouraged us to call them on their mobiles if we had any requests. Look forward to re-visiting soon.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike whatsoever.

Grassholme camping pod

Liked: Wonderful location with a single pod overlooking Teesdale and Lunedale. The pod is beautifully maintained and Mark and Helen are just the nicest hosts and very helpful in making recommendations of where to eat, visit and walk. You really couldn't ask for more friendly helpful hosts. There are so many local attractions that you are spoilt for choice, whether it's walking trails, history or which pub to visit. Really nice touch was the sparkling wine and chocolates on arrival.
