  • Rural Yorkshire camping by a stream in a scenic location near Leeds
  • On the Leeds Country Way; city centre 20 minutes' drive
  • Set on a working livestock farm with sheep, cows, chickens and ducks
Kiddal Quarry Farm is a small family-run business conveniently located between Leeds and York, just off the A64 and 10 minutes' drive from the A1. Set in the green belt between the two cities, the site has views over peaceful farmland, woodlands and hedgerows. The camping area is set back from the road and is shielded by trees, so the place feels very rural and relaxed. The farm has livestock, including sheep, cows, chickens, ducks and guinea fowl, so there are always fresh eggs for sale. It also grows its own fruit, veg and flowers, with produce sold in season (usually during the summer). Campfires are allowed, but please keep them in the designated and follow any instructions from the site (they may not be allowed in dry, windy or hot weather). Kiddal Quarry Farm is close to multiple public footpaths, including the Leeds Country Way, and is a short walk to the nearest villages of Barwick in Elmet and Thorner (20 minutes and 30 minutes respectively), as well as a selection of pubs. The facilities here are very basic, with a compost toilet and makeshift washing up station. Please only bring non-toxic and biodegradable cleaning products for you and your dishes and take your rubbish home with you. Please note that there is a 200-metre walk from the parking area to the camping area across a sloped field. Wheelbarrows are provided, and there's a quad bike and trailer too if you need a little extra help getting around because of mobility issues (please let the site team know about this in advance).

Route directions

Once you have arrived, press the green button to open the gate. If driving, please note that the site entrance is on the A64, not Kiddal Lane. Drive slowly as the drive is easy to miss. From the A1/York, the drive is the first left after Kiddal Lane. If you reach the Red Bus café you have gone too far. From Leeds, the drive is the first right after the Red Bus café, just after the bend. If you reach Kiddal Lane you have gone too far. If taking the bus, get off at Kiddal Lane End/Fox and Grapes pub and walk toward Leeds until you see the drive. Still can't find the site? The what3words address is this.completed.found

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The beauty and peace of the farm The simple, natural tent pitches, no manicured grass! The sheep and cows in the next field The lovely un-pressured feel of the place Having a campsite that wasn't dominated by huge tents and motor-homes All of the simple, eco-focussed ethos of the campsite Friendly family running the place.

Disliked: Nothing.

Bell tent

Liked: The scenery & chilled out atmosphere

Disliked: The bell tent had not been checked or cleaned after the last guests. The lady gave it a quick sweep while we waited but this should have been done BEFORE our arrival. The long uphill walk back to the car with a wheelbarrow carrying all our camping equipment.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: It was like going back to real camping. No frills. Lovely and quiet. Loads of space.

Disliked: We had a hand from the owner getting our stuff down to the campsite which was great but had to barrow everything back up and its quite a way up a hill. Being able to park a bit closer would have been great

Bell tent

Liked: Really friendly people, gave us a lift with the things to the campsite. Nice field and eco friendly toilet. Lovely working farm with cows and sheep in the next field and really focused on being good to the environment and eco friendly. Facilities we’re good but no activities. Natural camping.

Disliked: Was unable to have a camp fire even though the reason we booked was on pitchup it said we were able.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Cheap, peaceful, basic campsite. Not too far from the outskirts of Leeds (Tesco Extra 8 mins drive away if you forget anything). Pub a 5 min walk down the road.

Disliked: Bit of a walk down the field.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Friendly owners, v helpful. Steep slope to campsite field but were given ATV rides with our gear/tent on arrival and after packing up. Children liked watching the ducks and chickens. We had fresh duck eggs from farm shop for breakfast. We liked the eco ethos of the compost toilet and washing up station. We weren't brave enough to to use there outside bath 🛁 Great site for star gazing, we saw a super moon but don't forget your torch!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We had a lovely first ever camping trip. Hosts were lovely, weather was great and the kids had an amazing time.

Disliked: Just wish the grass had been cut on the pitch site itself as it was quite long and itchy. You also for the future should think about a concrete floor level bbq area.

Bell tent

Liked: The location is beautiful on a working farm. Communication with Sammie was excellent. We stayed in the tipee which was perfect for myself and my daughter. Sammie had a selection of freshly grown and picked flowers and vegetables that we brought from the farm shop. Everything is as described in te site details and really enjoyed our stay.
