  • Peaceful site in a rural village with views of Mow Cop folly
  • Next to a golf course and less than a 35-minute walk from Congleton
  • Pubs within a 15-minute stroll; Stoke-on-Trent a 25-minute drive
Get out on the green with ease – or have yourself a swish time just taking in views of the surrounding scenery – from Astbury Motorhome Campsite, next to Astbury Golf Club and looking out onto the National Heritage-listed Mow Cop folly. Whether you'll be honing that swing or visiting Mow Cop (less than a 10-minute drive away), this is a motorhome park where you can ditch the wheels for a couple of days and work those legs instead. It’s a 35-minute walk from here to the Cheshire town of Congleton and even less of a wander to nearby pubs and restaurants (including the one at the golf club for a celebratory meal after a win). If you’ll be cooking for yourself on a spacious pitch among the tree-lined surrounds of the park as well, get local produce from Congleton Garden Centre a five-minute stroll away or at the Glebe Farm shop (less than 25 minutes on foot); you can cue up directions on your phone by using the wifi at the site office. Also accessible less than a 40-minute walk away is Astbury Mere for wandering the wildflower meadows or sailing and canoeing on the water. Back at base, electric hookups are available on each pitch (please note that the site is restricted to a single-phase 13-amp circuit which is not suitable for electric kettles or toasters). There's also access to a grey waste dump, toilet disposal and fresh water. Gas barbecues are allowed on site, but not charcoal ones or firepits (and none on the grass areas, thanks). Freedom Camping Club membership is given for free on arrival. Please note that the site has no toilets or showers.

Local attractions

This is indeed a niftily located site, whether you’re interested in having a sedate gander at the moated half-timbered manor of Little Moreton Hall (under 10 minutes’ drive) or giddily taking on the rides at the theme parks of Alton Towers (40 minutes) and Waterworld (25 minutes). Art aficionado? The central England city of Stoke-on-Trent can be swiftly reached too in about 25 minutes for the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery displays in this destination famed for its finely crafted wares (plus it has a WWII Spitfire if you’re not that swayed by ceramics…). And if you can‘t get enough of handmade objects, the Gladstone Pottery Museum (30 minutes) in an old Victorian factory is worth a punt too. Got your sights set on northern city trips while you’re at this well-located park? Manchester is an hour and 10 minutes’ drive, while Liverpool is an hour and 20 minutes.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Well kept campsite with bins, chemical waste and each pitch had tarmac and grass. Gated so helped to feel secure.

Disliked: Sign impossible to see coming from Congleton, across a humped back bridge and a very sudden sharp turn to the right. Once missed, difficult for a motorhome towing a car to turn around. Google map it first and you will also see its’ proximity to the railway line, though to be fair we didn’t notice the trains. The 6 amp electricity supply was the biggest weakness of this site, not even enough to boil a kettle. We knew there were no toilets or showers, but missed this important detail.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: This is a small site. We were the only ones in it on our visit. Easy to find. Did not see the owner. The communication allowed us to go in, find our pitch and use the services(water, waste and grey water and toilet empty). Sits next to a train line but the trains did not bother us. The traffic died down late evening giving us the absolute best nights sleep all week. Pitches level. Beautiful views. Would definitely go back. Also cheap. No toilets or showers .

Disliked: If you don't like trains or a bit of evening traffic, this might not suit but we did not find it bothered us at all.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: We wanted somewhere not too far from home with EHU to try out our new camper for the first time and this was perfect! The location was super quiet - we did worry the train line might be loud but assume it isn’t in use as not a single train went by. It was walking distance through the golf course to the outskirts of Congleton if you wanted a small shop or pub. We also passed somewhere called Glebe Farm on the way which we didn’t go to but could also have walked to (although I think you would have had to walk on the road) and looked like it had loads going on! Plenty of space to pitch (level too!) and a nice grassy area to set up next to the van with loads of space between each other. No toilets or showers but this was no surprise as it clearly said so, but had all the waste disposal and clean water facilities you need.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: We needed a quiet, affordable pitch for one night. The criteria was that it had to have fresh water and toilet disposal facilities. This place was perfect for us. It is next to a train line but the trains didn't bother us at all. There are about 6 pitches but we were the only ones there, loved the place. As a sideline, we drove to the Heath Farm, Pub and Carvery which is less than 2 miles away and had the most wonderful, cheap meals.

Disliked: Nothing.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Clean basic site

Disliked: I emailed the owner over 7 days before our stay asking if we could amend our date of stay from 19th August to 20th August. He did not reply. I emailed him again several days later asking what the latest arrival time at the site was , to which he replied 11pm. I contacted Pitch Up several days later and was told they would amend the date and send confirmation. I had no written confirmation, so rang the owner on our way from Scotland. He was rude and aggressive and kept telling me he had had a heart attack and didn’t need this. He told me it was an automated site, run through Pitch Up and changes were difficult to do and that my request should have been made a week before, which it was but he clearly chose to ignore my email as he was able to respond to my email about late arrival times. After much moaning and groaning, he finally came back and said the booking had been amended. The site is right next to a high speed train track and on the Monday morning at least 5 trains had gone by between 6.45am and 7.30am, so if you want peace and quiet don’t stay here.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: We stayed here overnight on the 10th August and liked it very much. It's only a short drive away from the town of Congleton and Little Moreton Hall in Astbury, which we visted the day after. The site is very well laid out and private, within secure fencing and gates, and adequate signage is displayed to assist where necessary. All pitches are reasonably flat hard standing and the grass areas around them all well maintained. We would definitely return if visiting the area again.

Disliked: The addition of a basic onsite toilet would be good. Surely not too difficult to do, as elson and grey waste disposal drains are already in place.
