  • Pop up site in the foothills of the Eskdale and Wasdale valley
  • A 20 minute-drive to Wast Water and Scafell Pike; more fells nearby
  • Swim and fish in the nearby river; firepits for hire and wood for sale
Eyeing up Cumbrian fells and mountains? Based on a working family farm in the Cumbrian countryside, Bridge End Camping is at the gateway to the western Lake District fells. Just 100 yards from the river Irt too, take yourself on a morning swim or spend the early sunlight hours fishing. England’s deepest lake, Wast Water, is just 15 minutes’ drive away for more water activities. If you’re feeling particularly energetic, Scafell Pike is within walking distance of the top of the lake, along with other sublime Wasdale and Eskdale mountains. Since Bridge Edge Camping is at the base of Irton Pike, there are more Lake District mountains a 20-minute walk from the site (and, of course, some simply stunning views from your base). When the sun dips behind the horizon, bring out your snacks and set up around one of the firepits available for hire on site. Wood can be purchased on site, so you won’t need to go running around the local towns trying to source your own. Other handy site features include showers, toilets and washing-up facilities. Fishing is available too. Treat yourself (you are on holiday, after all). The site can arrange for afternoon tea to be delivered to your pitch. Those drooling at the thought of freshly-barbecued skewers can request a barbecue pack packed with meat and fresh eggs straight from the local farm too. If you’re lucky, you may get to meet some of the farm’s residents. The friendly sheep always welcome a good cuddle. If you fancy a pub crawl or some other tasty nosh, Eskdale (20 minutes’ drive) has a fine pub selection and the village of Gosforth (10 minutes) has pubs, an Italian restaurant, a café and a village shop. There’s ice cream at Seascale beach (15 minutes) too, of course. No need to start your engine if you don’t want to – there’s another pub five minutes’ walk from the site and a tearoom and gift shop in the nearby woodlands, 10 minutes’ walk away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Toilets and showers very clean. The kitchen area was really handy to wash up pots and access to drinking water. The owners were fantastic and so helpful. We ordered a BBQ pack and they left it in a cool bag whilst we were out. Overall a lovely site, one of the nicest we've been to, peaceful, beautiful surroundings and walking distance to the pub. Half an hour's drive to Scafell Pike. Make sure you wait up to see the stars, they're incredible here!

Disliked: Nothing at all, absolutely perfect!

Bell tent (two person)

Liked: Fantastic site, owners were so helpful and checked on every element of our day, we had a 2 person Bell tent that exceeded our expectations and more. This is now our “go to” site in the Lake District and I can’t recommend it enough.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: A perfectly peaceful campsite that was everything we could have asked for, the welcome was just right, attentive without being overbearing, the site offered a variety of added extras from BBQ packs to fire pits and wood bundles all at a very reasonable price, our first time camping in the Lakes and we will definitely be booking again.

Bell tent (five person)

Liked: Everything about the site was perfect for us. The layout is spacious and the grass is lush. The onsite amenities were clean, well stocked and working. The kitchen area has hot water, soap and everything needed to clean your pots and pans. The equipment provided inside the tent was more than adequate. Just about everything we needed was catered for. The owners were constantly visiting to ensure we had enough supplies such as wood, charcoal and they even topped up the marshmallows. Our tent was lovely. The beds were well furnished, warm, and with a decent mattress. We had 3 kids and a dog. Our dog enjoyed the open space and the surrounding streams. Night time is incredibly quiet and with a wonderful view of the stars. It got a bit cold one night, so we lit the indoor stove which provided us with some nice heat for a while. There is a shop a few miles away and has everything you might need. There's also a local pub which provides a wide range of food and allows dogs. We visited with the intention of chilling out for a couple of days and that's exactly what we got. Our children loved it. No wifi and no electricity meant they had to actually talk to us. They enjoyed exploring, lighting fires and staying up late. I can't say enough about just how well this site is run. We truly had a calm and relaxing few days and can't wait to return. I would totally recommend the bbq pack they offer, which is best cooked on the outdoor fire pit. This is a genuine and honest account of our stay there. They offer a basic, but lovely and rewarding experience. Thanks for reading. Iain

Disliked: Nothing! You get what you expect and more.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: All of the facilities provided were well cared for and very clean. There was even extra things in the cupboards to use if you had somehow forgotten to pack or had run out of. The hosts were very accommodating and you had the option to purchase breakfast, bbq food or even an afternoon tea and a fire pit too. All in all, for a pop up campsite it was really good and Scafell Pike was only a short drive away.

Bell tent (two person)

Liked: Absolutely lovely, peaceful campsite. The owners were great and couldn't do enough for people. Nicky even sorted a battery pack for me and my sister. Will definitely return. 😁

Disliked: Probably could do with more toilets but the owners said this is a plan longterm. 😁
