  • Small, quiet site alongside an animal rescue sanctuary
  • A short walk to a sandy beach; 25 minutes’ drive to the Lake District
  • Pub a short drive away; next to a Site of Special Scientific Interest
From Windy Millers Campsite, you’ll be able to grab sandy beaches, watersports and walks along Hadrian’s Wall by the horns. This family-run site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just 15 minutes’ walk away from a pleasant little sandy beach with the Lake District 25 minutes’ drive away and the start of Hadrian’s Wall 35 minutes away. The site is quite a peaceful wildlife haven, thanks to being in the grounds of a nature reserve with a Site of Special Scientific Interest next door – around 250 yards of grass-covered dunes going down towards clean, sandy beaches on the Solway estuary. Dogs are permitted here, but they must be kept under strict control as the site is a sanctuary for rescued birds and animals too, some already with injuries from humans and dogs. With the pleasures of the quiet countryside surrounding the site, you’ll also be able to find a slightly bigger buzz in local towns such as Maryport and Silloth-on-Solway, both 15 minutes’ drive away, the first with a museum and an aquarium. As for places to eat close by, there’s a community pub and a bar/restaurant within five minutes’ drive of the site. Shops are to be found in Maryport, along with restaurants with sea views.
