  • Laidback Cumbria farm site with views over the sea and Pennines
  • Under a mile to Ulverston and Cumbria Way; 10 mins' drive to the beach
  • Quiet dog-friendly location with hot showers; firepits on request
Lakes View Campsite is a pop-up site on a farm in the little hamlet of Rosside, about a mile from the centre of Ulverston. It’s a cracking location for a Cumbria break: it’s just outside the Lake District National Park, or you can hit the coast with a 10-minute drive. Some of the Lake District’s top spots should be on the to-do list when staying here: drive to the shores of Coniston Water or Windermere in 20 minutes or the Old Man of Coniston in half an hour, or set your sights a little further for days out around Grasmere, Ambleside and Scafell Pike (all within an hour’s drive). There are tons of great walks to be done around the Lake District, of course, but if you fancy a real challenge there’s one very close by in the form of the Cumbria Way – it starts in Ulverston and runs all the way up to Carlisle (70 miles away). Back at base, it’s a laidback setup where you can pick your own pitch, bring along a barbecue (slabs provided to avoid scorching the grass) and start campfires in the firepits provided (book in advance via the booking form, or feel free to bring your own). Firewood is available to buy on site too. Hot showers, portable toilets and a mains water tap are provided, and there’s a car park away from the pitching area to keep everyone safe. Dogs are welcome (as long as you clean up after them) and you’ll be asked to keep the noise down after 9pm. Fancy an evening out instead? Stroll to the centre of Ulverston in 15 minutes for a range of pubs, restaurants, cafés and takeaways (plus shops for your general supplies).
