  • Quiet family-run site just 15 minutes’ drive from Blackpool
  • A 20-minute drive to Preston and 25 minutes to the Forest of Bowland
  • Small and dog-friendly; pubs, shops and cafés 10 minutes’ drive away
Begin by prepping your relaxed outdoorsy outfits and perhaps some coins for Blackpool’s slots, as family-friendly Jalna Caravan and Camping is in a lush spot just 15 minutes’ drive away from the lights of Blackpool. Blackpool will likely bring to mind theme parks – the kind with wooden roller coasters and loop-the-loops, as well as those with water rides – along with amusement arcades, piers, beaches and (if you’re well-versed in the town’s ballroom history) the loud hum of Wurlitzer organ in the Tower Ballroom. All of this is only 15 minutes’ drive away from Jalna Caravan and Camping. It’s quiet in comparison at the small family-run site. Small, well-maintained and clean, and within one mile of Junction 3 on the M55, the site has been up and running for 50 years already. It has all the basic facilities, including electric hook-up, toilets and showers. Dogs are permitted on the site, but they must be kept on a lead at all times. Just down the road are a series of fishing lakes, good news for the anglers among your group. If you’re more food-focused when you’re on holiday, within 10 minutes’ drive of the site are pubs (including dog-friendly picks) and cafés in and around Elswick, Singleton and Kirkham. Get your pastries, coffees and sandwiches from the takeaways, pastry shop and coffee shop 15 minutes' walk away too. There are also two large outdoor car boot sales held regularly in the local area at weekends during the high season.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked: there is a shower / toilet . the site is quiet and near enough to Blackpool.

Disliked: The field for pitching caravans is currently unusable due to heavy winter rain waterlogging the ground . Digging works and laying gravel are taking place with (the owner states) drainage having been put in but too late. Owner had to use tractor to move our caravan into a decent position (despite us having a pick up truck with new off road tyres) and off at the end which seems to have damaged out tow hitch with a bolt snapping. Owner never telephoned to suggest not travelling there. Even tractor got stuck as it made caravan brakes apply.

Liked: Welcoming and helpful. Great space although on this occasion a little soft under foot but what can you expect with the amount of rain we’ve had recently. Lovely clean facilities. Lovely and quiet area. Great tv and phone reception And we had a lovely meal 10 mins drive at the eagle pub.

Liked: Dave the owner was very helpful.

Disliked: We stayed after very wet weather and wished we had taken wellies. The field is to be drained for next year which will be better when going to one loo/shower cubicle and getting on and off the site.

Liked: Jalna Caravan and Camping is a beautifully tranquil site tucked away from the madness of Blackpool. Situated 15 minutes from Blackpool its a great spot to stay. David the owner is a terrific example of a campsite owner. Nothing was too much trouble and he always had a smile in his face. The shower and toilet was exceptionally clean and well stocked with loo roll. Handwash and paper towels. We loved waking up to the mooing of cows and neighing of the horses. We will definitely be back next year as we've had a wonderful 5 days at Jalna.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked: We have just had the most peaceful 6 nights - what a little gem this place is. It’s 15mins from home, yet felt like a real holiday. Very clean basic little site. Dave (the owner) was very helpful when I had an issue with the water pump in my van. He parked our caravan with his tractor due to the bad weather our car would of been stuck! 1 shower/toilet this was spotless during our stay. The owners dog is beautiful and very friendly.

Disliked: Having to come home 😂

Local attractions

Ticking Blackpool Tower off your bucket list is one thing, but if you’re also an outdoorsy type, hiking over gritstone fells or valleys in the Forest of Bowland (from 25 minutes’ drive) will be just as much of an achievement. The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has riverside walks, dark skies, waterfalls and cycling paths. If you’re alright with a long-ish drive, the Lake District (from 45 minutes) is also accessible up the M6. Lake Windermere (an hour) is one of the most popular spots closest to the site. Closer to base, however, is Preston (20 minutes). The Lancashire city has a gorgeous cycling path tracing the River Ribble – and for those who want to explore more ground, the Ribble Steam Railway makes a three-mile round trip on a heritage locomotive. Lytham St Annes (20 minutes), back towards the coast, is just splendid too. Two miles south of Blackpool, the two seaside towns have a boating lake, Victorian pier and heaps of independent shops.
