  • Family-run 10-acre farm site with woodlands just outside Blackpool
  • A 25-minute drive to Blackpool Wake Park and Blackpool Zoo
  • Logs available to buy; firepits and barbecues permitted; shop nearby
Everything outdoorsy runs strong at Bowses Hill Farm, a family-run dog-friendly site with the tender touch of owners George and Charlotte, two big nature and outdoors lovers. It’s certainly nature-packed here, as the 10-acre farm is in a rural patch outside of Blackpool, and it has opened up its land for like-minded, keen explorers to get back to nature within the woodlands. You’ll be going down a privately-owned lane, tucked away… and once you're on site, there’s a nice mix of the homely and the wild. The owners want you to really appreciate nature, so an afternoon may look like wildlife spotting, den-building or searching for hidden tree drawings in the woodlands – or perhaps getting your hands dirty with some bushcraft activities or picking up wood and logs for a firepit. The site still has cosy creature comforts though, including a smart toilet/shower block opened for the summer 2021 season. There are logs available to buy from the site so that you may get a fire or barbecue going for some wild cooking, being sure to be mindful of their location, away from other guests and disposed of correctly. This is a wildlife haven with a peaceful stay in mind, so guests are asked to be respectful of the woodlands, leaving them unruffled, and noise levels must be kept down after 10.30pm to ensure little visitors and tired guests can get a good snooze. Conveniently, the local shop is just five minutes’ drive away from this site, so it’s easy to get your hands on more logs or other essentials ready to get exploring.

Bell tent

Liked: Everything about the site. The bell tent was lovely, really comfortable and enough room for 5 of us. The fire pit was great as was the option to buy wood. The toilets and washing up area was spotless. The lay out was lovely with the board walk and fairy lights. The warden was really friendly and even brought us a wood delivery after the allocated hours. Thank you.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The facilities were nice and very clean, with good hot showers. Loved the farm animals too - especially the pigs! We were allowed to pitch wherever we liked which was nice. We spent one night in the woods and one on the field. Both were lovely. There is also a nice pub (the Puddled Duck) only a 20 minute walk away, and nearby bus stops from which you can visit Blackpool and Knott's End.

Disliked: Unfortunately we shared the site with some very loud and obnoxious guests on the first night (Saturday). A group of girls were drinking and playing loud music till past 1am, and another group was generally very loud and rude. Can't really blame the owners for this, though they perhaps should have intervened at some point to either shut them up or throw them out.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great break away for the switch on of the lights. Friendly staff and great facilities.

Disliked: You are on a farm so cockerels will wake you up early. Hot water did run out for around 12 hours not sure what happened.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Farm and site was small so kids could play in the woods and we could see them from the tent Toilets blocked by morning and owner was quick to unblock them in the morning. Camp fire & all you need available to hire £20 for fire pit then extra for wood and kindling. Easy to order a takeaway to site.

Disliked: Site seemed overbooked there was no space between each tent and hardly any space in the middle for kids to play. Cars have to be left on car park at the front of the site. You are camping on a farm so expect to be woken all night long by roosters! Unfortunately weather was bad, the ground was boggy and with no sleep because of the cock-a-doodle-doing all night long we decided to pack up and go home after one night!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: You could hire a fire pit.

Disliked: Very busy not enough space. (When camp site is full maybe allocate spaces) If you like a good night sleep choose a different site. The cockerels on the farm are so loud all night!

From the manager: Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the noise from our farm's cockerels during your stay. We'd like to clarify that we've successfully rehomed a significant portion of the cockerels recently. However, as part of our farm's operation, we do maintain a very small number of resident cockerels to assist in maintaining our chicken stock. We assure you these are well-behaved and since reducing their numbers, they have become significantly less noticeable. Your feedback is valuable to us as we aim to enhance our guests' experience. We regret that your experience fell short of your expectations due to the noise, and we hope this won't deter you from considering us in the future. If you have any further concerns or if there's anything specific we can do to improve your experience, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. We value your input and strive to make necessary adjustments for a more enjoyable stay. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Kind Regards, George & Charlotte

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild, woodland)

Liked: The facilities were always clean, excellent showers! We all loved having the animals close by, especially my partner who formed a bond with the pigs. I loved how small the site was in terms of pitches being close, it meant that my daughter could roam freely without me worrying. The kids play area was excellent too!! Camping under the forest was a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful too. The fire pits for hire were great quality and we managed to have a couple of fires over our stay, daughter was very happy toasting her marshmallows. 100% would recommend and we will absolutely be returning next season!

Local attractions

You may know Blackpool for its seafront and 19th-century Central Pier (half an hour’s drive) complete with a funfair, but the attractions certainly don’t end there. You might have a hard time deciding between catapulting down waterslides in Sandcastle Waterpark (35 minutes), dropping from heights at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (35 minutes) or playing like a prisoner on the theatrical rides in the The Blackpool Tower Dungeon (half an hour). Water ready too? Blackpool Wake Park (25 minutes) has an aqua park where you'll be able to get your bounce on. Watersports are on full throttle here too, with everything from wakeboarding to kayaking. St Annes beach (40 minutes) will keep up this spirit too, as the sandy stretch is a hotspot for windsurfing and kitesurfing (and donkey rides, in typical seaside style too). To wind things back down, the town has a few spots for a more leisurely pace. Perhaps a tour of the enclosures in Blackpool Zoo (25 minutes), getting up and close with the wax figures at Madame Tussauds (half an hour) or seeing what life looks like underwater at SEA LIFE Blackpool (half an hour)?
