  • Well-maintained and peaceful park a mile away from Gisburn Forest
  • A 20-minute drive from Settle and half an hour from Skipton
  • Barbecues and dogs welcome; a 10-minute drive from the local pub
What say you to pitching up in a peaceful forest clearing? Primrose Park is a well-maintained site on the edge of the Forest of Bowland and close to the Yorkshire Dales, making this spot a particularly appealing base for those seeking back to basics hols filled with rural rambles. This fine little site is surrounded by green Lancashire lanes and gorgeous forest vistas – Gisburn Forest Hub (10 minutes' drive), a visitor centre with a café, mountain bike trails and waymarked walks, makes a great starting point for exploring both. You'll also likely want to plan a few trips across the Yorkshire border for outdoor jaunts around Malham or shopping trips in the market town of Skipton (both are about half an hour away). Families (including their canine members) are welcome at this friendly site; there's also an outdoor play area where the tiddlers can play and meet new pals in a safe environment. For sociable evening eats, you can light up a barbecue or firepit (off-ground only for both) get cooking with your clan; if the weather has other ideas, you can always bag yourself a table at the nearest pub, 10 minutes away. Facilities are fairly minimal on site, but you'll have access to two unisex toilet/shower blocks. Snacks and other supplies can be sorted with a quick stop at the small on-site shop. The closest supermarket is in Settle (20 minutes away by car), where there's also a range of eateries from fish and chips to fine dining and all things in between.

Woodland Park non-electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely loved this campsite, a real family friendly site. We opted for a quieter pitch away from the main field. We stayed in Primrose woodland, hard standing pitch. It was lush. The sky was so clear, if you love star gazing and get a clear night this place is perfect (my photo does not do it justice) Fires roaring, and the sounds of nature! What more could you want. The toilets are cleaned constantly. The owner did his rounds with fire pits and logs if needed and he was so friendly. We will definitely return. :)

Beck View non-electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We’ve just returned from a weekend break at primrose park, for anybody thinking of booking I’d highly recommend. The site is really relaxed and friendly. Camp fires are welcome, you can hire one for a small fee for the duration of your stay. I wish I’d have read the description/information before packing for the weekend. We could have saved space by leaving ours at home as you can also purchase fire wood on site. We stayed on the gravel pitch with beck view, although you can’t see the beck from the pitch you can hear it, it’s just a two minute walk to the beck which is really pretty if you are wanting to check it out. There is a toilet block on site, pot washing stations and a couple of shower cubicles. We did read a couple of negative reviews before booking regarding the showers been cold, I’m really glad we didn’t let that deter us as we had two showers daily that were lovely and warm. The site is dog friendly and family friendly and seemed to be really versatile, We stayed in a tent box on a touring pitch (beck view) which was really peaceful and tranquil, the field looked mainly occupied by families, it was lovely to see the children playing football or playing on their bikes, being kids and enjoying the great outdoors. The site is a 20 minute drive from Gisburn forest and stocks reservoir. if you decide to venture out there is a lovely little bistro called the old vicarage tea room which serves the tastiest pies and an amazing Sunday dinner. There is also a bike hire company attached to the side of it which has plenty of bikes to chose from if you’re wanting to go off exploring. it took us 7 minutes to drive to the tea rooms one day, and 30 minutes to walk to it another day.

Primrose Park non-electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: The playground although basic kept my son and his friends occupied for hours using thier imagination to play. The owner was really friendly and always happy to help. Toilets were kept restocked and the little store was great for essentials

Disliked: Could do with a couple more showers but that's it

Liked: A fantastic little site, we stayed right by the play area which was ideal for our young boys. The area surrounding is lovely. The farmer who runs the site is very friendly and extremely helpful. Would stay again.

Liked: Loved Primrose Park, very peaceful and great views. The owner is a very happy, friendly guy, quite funny. We had to leave in a hurry and didn't stay the night, but will be back. We had a mobile signal (EE) for calls, 4G is come and go but usable. Shame we had to leave (thats life) but definitely will be returning.

Disliked: None.

Primrose Park Field non-electric grass pitch

Liked: views over to pendle hill were amazing! The campsite and around there is very little light so was amazing for star gazing at night. Lovely and quiet campsite, had a play area in the middle for children. Facilities were clean and easy to find. Had dinner at the pub near by The plough inn about 10minutes drive.

Local attractions

Itching to get out for some outdoor pursuits? Put your tackle to the test at Stocks Reservoir (10 minutes' drive), a nearby angling spot where you can catch both brown and rainbow trout. (If all this fly fishing malarky is new to you, you can also book a crash course in the basics before getting started.) The local riding stable (10 minutes) is another popular pick if you fancy a spell in the saddle. Up for roaming the hills of the Yorkshire Dales and Eden Valley by rail? Pull up in Settle (20 minutes) and get yourself aboard the Settle to Carlisle railway, a solidly scenic 73-mile line with highlights like the Ribblehead Viaduct and Dent station, the highest in all of England. Steam services are also occasionally laid on for those looking to make the four-hour round trip in style. Other visit-worthy Yorkshire haunts include Skipton (30 minutes), home to a well-preserved castle and narrowboat tours, Bolton Abbey (40 minutes) and the Dales village of Malham (30 minutes), the starting point for hardy hill walkers heading out to Malham Cove and Malham Tarn.
