  • Peaceful Lancashire farm site in an area of outstanding natural beauty
  • Morecambe 20 minutes' drive; half an hour to Kendal and the Lakes
  • Coffee and croissants sold in the morning; stunning coastal views
Scar Close Camping and Glamping is a peaceful site set in the grounds of a 36-acre old hobby farm in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The surrounding landscape is made up of sloping hills, grassland and woodland, while the coast at Morecambe Bay is within easy reach. This spacious rural spot has facilities including serviced toilet cubicles and basic showers for guests. Coffee and croissants are available to buy in the morning and plentiful parking is available (with an alternative area on hand off the grass in case of wet weather). The site recommends bringing a bucket or bowl for washing up as well as a torch, as it can get very dark in this part of northern Lancashire at night. Scar Close Camping and Glamping is a laidback site that is geared towards families and welcomes well-behaved pets (when on leads and carefully supervised at all times). While you can't build an open fire, a ready-made traditional stone firepit is available for evening cook-outs, and barbecues are welcome as long as they're not placed directly on the ground or picnic benches. Scar Close is situated at the foot of Warton Crag, a prominent limestone hill and the highest point in Arnside and Silverdale. The small village of Warton is about a mile down the road and has a brewery, pub and post office.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Fantastic view of the bay, lovely hosts, especially serving “scarbucks” coffee in the morning. Nice and quiet, really lovely micro brewery at the end of the road. The cleanest facilities block I’ve ever seen at a campsite.

Disliked: Difficult to get an entirely flat pitch, sacrifice that for the beautiful rolling field though. Cheeky dog broke into our tent looking for food friendly enough to tell him to go home though

From the manager: Thank you Adam, we really must apologise for our cheeky dog, he knows where the best sausages are!! Anne & Martyn

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Our stay at Scar Close was only positive. The on-site toilets and showers were always well kept and stocked with toilet paper. There’s an on-site wash up area for dishes which graciously had washing liquid. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and featured a coffee and croissant sale between 8am-9am which was highly appreciated by all (especially with the campsite being a 10 minute drive from Tesco). There’s plenty of level space on the field for all tents and vehicles even during the summer holiday/bank holiday busy period. There’s also a requested quieter time in the evenings, although silence isn’t enforced, so you can rest comfortably if you’re an early-riser. There was even some animals on site and we were fortunate enough to see the highland cows at the site! I’d highly recommend scar close to other campers who are looking for a lovely getaway!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This beautiful site has unrivalled views. And the owners are incredibly warm and welcoming and went the extra mile for us. The site is good for families and couples. The shower block is small and unisex but very clean and modern. Surrounded by forest which you are welcome to explore. We will definitely be coming back. Only open 60 days a year.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely secluded location. Fabulous view. Really new clean shower block. Great idea to have a coffee/ croissant kiosk for first thing in the morning. We arrived late and they were very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend.

Disliked: Wasn't an issue for us but field is very undulating so if crowded it would be difficult to find a level pitch for a tent

Bell tent (basic)

Liked: The peace and space between tents. We were glamping in a bell tent and it was spacious and kept us dry. Owners were very friendly and sold coffee and croissants. Great view over Morecambe Bay.

Disliked: Torches needed to navigate the stony path to the toilets in the night.

From the manager: Thank you Lynne
