  • Dog-friendly site on a 25-acre working farm three miles from Sidcup
  • A 20-minute drive to the North Downs Way or London attractions
  • Farm shop, restaurant and kids' soft play on site
So, you want to see London, but you don’t want to be surrounded by the lights and sounds of the big city? Or perhaps you’re after somewhere to set up base that’s within driving distance of the Surrey Hills, the Kent Downs and the North Downs Way? This 25-acre arable farm is looking like a likely (and lovely) option, three miles from Sidcup in the outskirts of Greater London. Better still, this site has its very own farm shop where you can pick up fresh supplies. There are several train stations around for any trips to central London (Albany Park station, 20 minutes’ walk away, will get you to the centre in half an hour). If your main goal is to hike through chalk country along the North Downs Way, that’s 20 minutes’ drive to the south. The coast is within reach too: Whitstable and its oysters are 55 minutes’ drive away. What’s the rest of the set-up like? Well, it's a small-scale site surrounded by trees, and there are accessible toilets and showers available when you fancy freshening up. Dogs are welcome here too – they’re likely to appreciate all the walks around in nearby Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or you could just take them on the short stroll to the local pub, five minutes away.

Local attractions

Check out the schedule at the O2 (25 minutes’ drive) – since you’re so close, you’ll be well-positioned to catch one of the shows there. Of course, all of London’s central sights can be accessed by train: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the British Museum, the London Eye and so on. London’s got a lot in store for any history aficionados, but you don’t necessarily have to head into the city. Take in the estate at the National Trust’s Chartwell (35 minutes) or see how two pre-Raphaelites decorated the National Trust’s Red House (15 minutes) or Hall Place & Gardens (10 minutes). More restful rambles await at Foots Cray Meadows (five minutes), a large local park. Or perhaps you’d like to see where miners used to produce flint and lime-burning chalk back in the 13th to 19th centuries at Chislehurst Caves (20 minutes). To the south is Royal Tunbridge Wells (40 minutes), for shopping along The Pantiles and exploring the old shops, pubs and townhouses throughout the town. For more shopping days, head to Bluewater Shopping Centre (15 minutes) for big brands and fashion outlets.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good place to get to places around london.

Disliked: Booked electric but there was no electric sockets left when we got there. We said on the phone we would like a partial refund as we have paid extra for electric and that’s why we booked this site as we was going to the races so needed hair’s appliances etc. We didnt see one member of staff on the site so have emailed about the refund yet had no reply! The land is deserted as they are clearly refurbishing their farm shop etc, however it says report to reception on arrival. Theres no reception area, we didn’t see a single member of staff so we just decided to pitch the tent ip anywhere. There was one shower situated in the one toilet they had bar the 2 portaloos they had on the other side of the field. It was certainly not the cleanest, no loo roll on the arrival, mop buckets where disgusting and left for customers to clean the floor themselves, floor was muddy and couldnt be cleaned with the mop as the mop was so dirty and you have to pay £1 for 8 mins in the shower which we wasn’t informed of before our arrival. All the bins on the site where overflowed so rubbish was all over the field where animals could get to. Overall the site shouldn’t be open as they do not have the facilities for people. We paid for an electric pitch which was available and still not had any refund or contact about it back.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: NOT AT ALL WORST EVER PLACE STAYED

Disliked: Poor quality of facilities. 1 toilet working close to tent pitches. Not enough electric hook ups. Only one shower unit for the whole camp site to use which you had to pay extra for. No running hot water to clean dishes. No freezer facilities like stated. Grass over grown so children had lots of nettle stings.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It was functional. The two onsite portaloos were clean.

Disliked: This isn't intended as a negative review but think people should be aware of what to expect here. This campsite is basically two fields on the grounds of an industrial farm unit. There appeared to be no reception or campsite staff around. Neither field had been mowed recently. The (overflow?) field was pretty overgrown with tall grass & weeds. There was one water tap, connected for some reason to a very long hosepipe. A particular special moment was having to find the end of this hose and then fish it out of a child’s paddling pool. The child was already in the pool, which I can’t imagine meets any type of health standards for the site’s only source of clean drinking water. A large agricultural vehicle was ploughing and spraying an adjacent field on the site, backing right up to the camping field fence where children were playing. Lets hope it wasn’t spraying chemicals. On another side of the camping field is a drainage ditch with a very large partially buried concrete drainage pipe leading underground. This pipe had no type of barriers and we heard two children openly saying “lets go and play in the tunnel”. Over on the industrial unit, there was apparently a coin operated shower (which I haven’t heard of on a campsite for years). The campsite runs alongside a busy dual carriageway and is directly under the landing flight path of an airport. The industrial unit also had a lot of flood lights, lighting up their car park. These unfortunately also illuminated the entire campsite all night. You won’t see a lot of stars. It wasn’t an unpleasant experience. I’m just not sure it felt like a campsite. If you are looking to get back to nature, this probably isn't it. I also would not recommend it for a week long family holiday. If you need somewhere functional to put up a tent for one night, it would probably be fine.
