  • Smart bell tent glamping overlooking the West Sussex South Downs
  • A 10-minute drive from Uppark House and Garden; Emsworth 15 minutes
  • On-site falconry sessions three times a week; fresh eggs available
Unwind under your very own canvas canopy surrounded by rural views over the South Downs at this smart West Sussex site. Set deep in the Downs on the edge of the small village of Compton, Compton Farm has spacious, high-quality furnished accommodation that works just as well for family country breaks as for romantic weekends for two. These top of the range tents are spacious and have more headroom than many canvas units, meaning each can comfortably sleep up to four. Inside, you can look forward to a high standard of decoration and furnishings, with a real double bed (with bedding included), camp beds with toppers for the kids, carpets, mats, LED lanterns, plants, bunting and storage space all coming as standard. As this is a largely off-grid experience, classic games and cards are also provided for evening entertainment. A short distance away, shared toilets, showers and a washing-up area are available. Fresh eggs are also usually available to buy on site. Away from base, Compton Farm is a three-minute walk from the well-stocked village shop and tea rooms, where you can pick up newspapers, local produce and refreshments or stop for light lunches and freshly-baked cake. It's a similar distance to the nearest pub, where home-cooked food and pub quizzes are on offer.

Local attractions

West Sussex Falconry, which is based just a couple of minutes' walk away on the edge of the village, comes to Compton Farm three times a week to fly their birds. Adults and kids who are curious about this ancient sport can book ahead to learn more and get a chance to fly beautiful birds of prey. Well-known sandy beaches like West Wittering can be reached within 35 minutes' drive, while driving to Hayling Island's shores will take you around 25 minutes. Although there's no beach at Emsworth (15 minutes), this coastal town's ancient mill pond, restaurants and views over Chichester Harbour more than make up for it; solar-powered boat rides are also available here. Inland, the Stansted Park Estate (10 minutes) has many miles of footpaths to explore, plus a maze, garden centre and well-stocked farm shop. There's also Uppark House and Garden (10 minutes), which is managed by the National Trust and well worth a visit; parts of its grounds can even be seen from site. Goodwood (20 minutes), an expansive estate on the edge of the cathedral city of Chichester, is also close by if you're interested in motoring experiences, classic cars or horse racing.
