  • Traditional, working sheep farm site with splendid sea views
  • 15 minutes’ drive to Marazion; walking distance to Porthleven harbour
  • Walk to a café, pub and shop; barbecues and firepits allowed
Whether it’s fish and chips in Porthleven’s harbour or clifftop strolls, you’ll be well-set to get to know top foodie spots, local history and the castles, causeways and coves along the Cornwall coast from Ewe With A View Campsite. Four miles from Helston, this site is in true ‘Poldark’ country and there’s a real connoisseur’s selection of walks and cycles locally… While you’re rounding up ideas on where to walk to, you’d be off to a good start with a wander over to Rinsey's coastline, half an hour’s walk away. Old mining engine houses, wild horses and views of the surf crashing against the cliffs and coves are some of the splendid sights around here. Down in Porthleven, 45 minutes’ walk away, the fishing village has plenty of history and Cornish folklore to learn about – and for those food fans among you, a handful of splendid places to eat, including several fish and chip shops, a gourmet café, a luxury deli and a traditional pub with fab food, drinks and views over the harbour. For those bits to take back with you, the village also has a handy food shop and post office. Back on site, there are spectacular views over Porthleven’s harbour and the Lizard. The sea views are part of what makes this traditional, working sheep farm site such a pretty and peaceful place to unwind – but barbecues and firepits also add to the merry time.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Tiny site with well thought out toilet and shower facilities in an old horse box. Shower was super warm😊 Communal fridge and freezer very useful in the sometimes very hot sometimes not so hot weather. Liked the fact you could have a fire pit.

Disliked: The grass could have been a bit shorter but that’s such a minor thing.. Shower slow to drain but a bit of improvised plunging with a croc soon sorted it🤣

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: No fuss good flat pitch. Good use of old material e.g shower in horse box. Green campsite

Disliked: The bathroom was unclean and the shower was blocked, shower tray overflowing which was unpleasant. I would like to have stayed here again but the shower facility was so unclean. Is a green campsite but eco and green doesn’t have to mean blocked showers

From the manager: Hello, Thanks for your brutally honest feedback. We sincerely apologise for the shower tray overflowing, we had a temporary but serious blockage. This was all resolved withing 48 hours and the shower and bathroom were back to their normal clean and free draining best. We clean and scrub the shower and toilets every single day to a very high standard and the 2 days where it was flooding was an anomaly which has never happened before. We have refunded the other guests who were staying at the time and if you would like to get a refund for those dates please just send us a message and we will get it paid back. As you can see from all of our other views cleanliness has never been raised as an issue before this review and we will continue to maintain these to the very best of our ability. We operate to the highest standard and can only apologise, offer you the refund and a free night stay next time if you are happy to trust this was freak circumstances. Warmest regards from all the Ewe crew.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Such a wonderful stay! The shepherds hut is beautifully fitted out and very thoughtfully designed. I am not shy about the fact that I hate camping, but it was like staying in a tiny home rather than a campsite, very cosy and homely. A wonderful shower, a proper hob to cook on, a log burner, a lovely outside space to dine looking across the stunning views to the beach beyond over the fields of sheep grazing. We had a magical time, thank you! Side note: we still had great signal so I could tether my laptop and do some work with a view, plan some walks and to watch a movie one evening. You’re not totally off grid if that’s important to you :)

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Located in a great part of Cornwall near the amazing town of Porthleven, it is a friendly farm campsite with good quirky facilities, great to see all the animals, sheep, pigs, ducks and a friendly dog.

Disliked: Quite tight pitches made us a little self conscious about noise.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Ewe with a view is simply, excellent. It's a laid back, small campsite, with only really room for about 10 people in the tent-camping bit. It's a size small enough to feel like your own special location, lovely and cosy, and quiet. It's also well as connected enough to the local beaches and towns to be a great basecamp to explore this part of cornwall, only about half an hour by car to Lands End, and 20 mins to Penzance. Praa Sands is 10 minute drive away. The owners are very accommodating and helpful, they're laid back and clearly proud of what they've built, and it shows. You're welcomed and then trusted to find your own enjoyment. Theyve got excellent suggestions. The shower is very good, and clean. There's good amenities, a fridge and place to charge your items. The small scale means no bleary-eyed, oversweated trek from the tent to the shower. Just a nice soft walk over grass literally 10 meters. There's a good firepit for a bbq. It's on top of a hill so gets sunlight quite late into the evening, and good signal. The ground is soft and flat. Lastly, the animals. You will be greeted by a dog called Henry, who is a lovely heavy boi. He will lumber over to you and plop himself down to receive pets. He will then hear the song of his people on the wind and fold himself upwards to saunter off to the middle of the far field, and begin his evening job of staring out, preoccupied, like the gaurdian spirit of a dog-only imaginary world. There was also a friendly Collie, too, who we did not get to know as well. There are sheep, some with possibly the largest and most incongrously proportioned testicles. There are also some pigs, and some very discerning runner ducks who will refuse to accept you as one of their own, and run from you. There is also a cat called Farm Cat who is as old as time itself, who will plod towards you with a spaghetti-western squint, at a glacial and unstoppable pace, as if each paw is made of sponge. He is forever desperate for you to scratch behind his ears. TLDR: Excellent.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Gorgeous little campsite right in a farm, with sheep, running ducks and a very friendly dog. The shower and loos are in a horse box, and really cute but a fantastic hot shower. Well-thought out eating and clear-up area behind a fence so safe from inquisitive lambs, and all the rubbish, recycling and sinks are also outside in nice wooden boxes. We were working at the local Porthleven festival, so ideal to just get away from it all each evening. Idyllic location with sea views in the distance. Thank you Duncan for your quick response when I lost my way with festival redirections.

Local attractions

Map out the way to Marazion (15 minutes’ drive)… once you get there, you’ll have the choice of windsurfing, kitesurfing or sailing from the beach or following the causeway out to St Michael’s Mount (15 minutes) - that's if you get your timings right for low tide. This castle out to the sea is a sweet place for a chilled drink, a picnic on the lawn or strolling around the streets and sub-tropical garden. From the site, you’ll only be a short drive from England’s most southerly and most westerly points too… that’s Lizard Point (half an hour) for the former’s beaches and coastal paths or the Land's End Landmark Attraction (40 minutes) for the westerly point’s shopping village, clifftop trails and family-friendly entertainment venues. For those of you with kids, Flambards Theme Park (10 minutes) will get the whole family out of their comfort zone on some fab rides. There are plenty of coves around for sandcastle building, surfing or whatever else you have in mind – sandy strolls or a snooze, it's up to you – including Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach (25 minutes), Kennack Sands (half an hour) or Kynance Cove (35 minutes).
