  • A short walk from tin mines, The Cheesewring and Hurlers Stone Circles
  • Well-equipped kitchen, hobbit wood burner, ensuite and private garden
Planning a cosy Cornish break? Then, drop your anchor at Phoenix Farm, a self-contained shepherd's hut on the edge of the Bodmin Moor. The hut is in a paddock on a working beef and sheep farm adjacent to the farmhouse 60 metres away with views of the countryside, and the cherry on top? It's only 45 minutes’ drive away from the North Cornwall coast. Walking fans will find their groove here, as the site is a short walk away from historical features such as the Hurlers Stone Circles (20 minutes' walk). You’ll be able to spot The Cheesewring (25 minutes) and disused tin mines (five minutes) from your private garden, a small patch of land ready for stargazing under the dark skies landscape or listening to birds over breakfast. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the scenery shows in the local village of Minions, where there’s a small shop, pub and tearoom. You’ll want to grab some essentials, as the hut is kitted out with a kitchenette (kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, single hob and tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar provided). You'll have an ensuite with a shower, toilet, basin and fluffy towels, and this cosy feel continues into the hut's hobbit wood burner and comfy carver chairs by the fire - perhaps for a game of cards or a snuggle with a good book? After you make use of the private parking a short walk from the hut, expect a Cornish cream tea upon arrival for a true warm welcome.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Such a great experience! My partner and I needed a place where we could just have a relaxing & peaceful stay and choosing the Phoenix farm hut was the best choice. The owner Amelia was so welcoming and very accommodating too! The hut itself was clean, comfy & cozy. It literally has everything you would need for a quick getaway & the best thing is, the view was from the hut is amazing! 10/10 experience for us!

Shepherd's hut

Liked: The hut was very clean and tidy when we arrived and had everything inside we possibly needed for the weekend, as well as a cream tea! Amelia was quick to help if and when anything was needed and made us feel very welcome! The location is perfect too. We will most definitely be staying again!

Local attractions

An active type? Put your foot to the pedal on the Camel Trail (half an hour’s drive)… this splendid cycling route goes between Bodmin and pretty Padstow, stopping at Wadebridge on the way, so it’s your very own 18-mile tour of some top towns. For watersports rather, Summerleaze Beach (55 minutes) is sure to hit the spot – just decide between surfing, watersports and paddles in the sea pool. There’s plenty more fresh sea air around here, whether it’s on a fishing trip from Looe (half an hour), beach slumming it in Boscastle (45 minutes) or surfing and rockpooling at Crackington Beach (45 minutes). As for the historical, perhaps a pedal on a hire bicycle at the National Trust’s Lanhydrock (half an hour), a Victorian country house? A visit to Antony (35 minutes), a National Trust-manged 18th-century house? Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park (50 minutes) has forest trails, segways, circus classes and a shopping village, while the Eden Project (35 minutes) has splendid rainforest biomes. If you’re around for a very special event, The Green Cornwall Weddings and Events, a luxury Cornish wedding venue (five minutes) is very close by.
