  • Small glamping site with spectacular views of Lostwithiel in Cornwall
  • The Eden Project and Par Sands beach both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Exclusive-use shower room; fridge and freezer space; logs available
A small but exclusive glamping site, Lost In Canvas is in the grounds of Delancey House, set on a hillside overlooking the historic town of Lostwithiel in Cornwall. Soak up spectacular views of the River Fowey from the comfort of your tent or when cosying up around the firepit. Whether it’s exploring the local area or passing a peaceful day amid the lush countryside, this is a spot for families keen for downtime with their kids or couples on a scenic getaway. No need to share or compromise on toilet and washing facilities: with your tent come the keys to your own private shower room, with toilet, Belfast sink set into a walnut worktop, a heated towel rail, and – best of all – a high-pressure shower with constant hot water. You can leave the cool box behind and the ice for your all-important G&Ts is no issue, as you have access to a shared fridge and freezer space in the log shed nearby. Here, you can also stock up on logs for the firepit, buy fresh local produce when available, and keep an eye out for owner Bex’s special baked goods – you won’t want to miss those. You are free to roam the grounds of Delancey House, so stretch your legs with a walk down to the lower meadows, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife – you might get lucky and see the resident roe deer, who often puts in an appearance. There’s also direct access to 35 acres of woodland, or it’s 20 minutes’ walk down the hill into Lostwithiel to its shops, cafés and pubs.

Liked: What a wonderful location this is! We spent two nights here with our two young daughters. The ready made beds ensured a comfortable sleep, and waking up to the breathtaking view was amazing. Our girls had a wonderful time playing in the spacious surroundings of the tent. The bell tent offered a sense of seclusion with only two others in the field. The upkeep of the site is impeccable. The inclusion of a private bathroom was a welcomed bonus, creating a hotel-like experience. Throughout our stay, we were provided with cooking amenities and a campfire, adding to the enjoyment. Chris, one of the owners, was incredibly accommodating and available for any assistance we required. The location couldn't be better – it offers an escape from the bustling campsites nearer the beach while remaining a short drive away, and it's conveniently situated for exploring various attractions. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Avon Gwel bell tent

Liked: Fabulous location just outside Lostwithiel with a great view down the valley. We had no problem arriving without a car and enjoyed a walk to nearby Restormel Castle and the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery. The site is very spacious and the bell tent was luxurious; we also had our own seating area with firepit and a private bathroom.

Disliked: Nothing!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: Absolutely amazing campsite! Quiet and private with a fantastic view. Level pitches. Bathroom facilities were brilliant and everything was so well thought through for guests. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evening too. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Great campsite guide and local guide provided by Chris. Best campsite we’ve ever stayed at by far! We will be back.

Local attractions

Have a ramble around sculpture trails in The Lost Gardens of Heligan (half an hour), or scare yourselves listening to lurid ghost stories at Bodmin Jail Attraction (15 minutes). And of course, it’s worth taking time to explore the tropical biospheres at the ever-popular Eden Project (15 minutes). Hop in the car and you’re soon on a beach. But which one to choose? The family-friendly Polkerris (20 minutes) has a beachfront pub and restaurant, while Polridmouth (15 minutes) has often calm waters, making it a great wild swimming spot. Sheltered Porthpean Beach (20 minutes) is popular for watersports (hire gear there) and rock pooling with the kids. Sporty types can play golf, go paddleboarding in the Fowey Estuary (both 15 minutes) or yomp through the wetlands at Shirehall Moor Local Nature Reserve (five minutes). And when you’ve done your exercise for the day, make for the fantastic pubs, cafés and restaurants in lively, pretty Fowey (20 minutes) for waterfront dining on fine Cornish seafood.
