  • Five-metre bell tents at a family farm in central Cornwall
  • A 20-minute drive to the Eden Project and Lost Gardens Heligan
  • Beds and barbecue provided; 10-minute walk to village shop and pub
Stunning countryside all around, a central Cornwall location for easy days out, and a smart tent all set up for you… if that sounds like a tempting trio of plus points, book yourselves into one of the bell tents at Red Sky at Resugga Farm. This peaceful rural setting is part of a family farm just outside the village of St Stephen, about 10 minutes’ walk from its pub, fish and chip shop and small supermarket. It’s roughly halfway between Cornwall’s two coastlines, so it's just as easy to get down to the fishing villages of Mevagissey and Charlestown as it is to hit the surf in Newquay (all are within a 25-minute drive). Major attractions like the Eden Project and Lost Gardens Heligan are easy to get to as well (with a 20-minute drive), as is the bigger town of St Austell (15 minutes away). And of course there are plenty of places to get out for a walk, either locally or on a chunk of the scenic South West Coast Path. You’re likely to be busy with all this exploring to do – so it’s most handy that there’s nothing to do in terms of tent set-up. Each of the five-metre tents is fully furnished, with carpets, real beds (made up with cotton sheets and cosy duvets), a table, a mirror and lighting. Showers and toilets are close to the tent area, and there are barbecue facilities provided for alfresco cooking (at its very best when using fresh local produce from the farm shop just a short stroll away…)

Local attractions

If you’re bringing along a hitlist of Cornwall’s top attractions, this is a great place to tick them off from. Perhaps start by ambling around the eco domes of the Eden Project, and then following up by finding your way to the Lost Gardens Heligan (either one 20 minutes’ drive). After that, head to the classic fishing villages of Charlestown (15 minutes) or Mevagissey (20 minutes) for a taste of old Cornwall. And then, maybe up to the north coast to take surf lessons or visit the zoo in Newquay (25 minutes) or dine at a celeb seafood restaurant in Padstow (half an hour). The sandy beaches of Porth (25 minutes) and Perranporth (half an hour) are top spots for seaside fans too. To see a different side of Cornwall, make tracks up to Bodmin Moor (half an hour) for walks among intriguing rock formations and wild ponies, check out the interactive displays at Wheal Martyn Clay Works (15 minutes) or coo over the rescue animals at Screech Owl Sanctuary (15 minutes).
