  • Friendly site under five minutes’ drive from main A30 and A39 roads
  • On a National Cycle Network route and a 20-minute drive from Newquay
  • Wifi access; pets and barbecues are permitted on the grounds
There might not be real-life hogs to pet at Piggies Camping Cornwall but the park has a lot else going for it besides – this peaceful hideaway is in the middle of the Cornish countryside equidistant between the county’s northern and southern coasts, and with stunning scenery to admire from the grassy grounds. As well as being in a lovely location, this site's a most handy spot for road trips. It’s five minutes’ drive from the main A30 and A39 roads, which lead all the way down to mainland Britain’s southernmost point at Land’s End, and is smack-bang in the middle of the Newquay, Padstow and St Austell triangle (with all three towns less than 25 minutes away). Eager to jump on the saddle rather than in the car? Piggies Camping Cornwall is on the National Cycle Network, so puttering along pretty paths by bike is a cinch. When you're not exploring or visiting Springfield Fun Park (10-minute walk) and Gnome World (five minutes), the site also has plenty of open space for the kids to run amok while adults unfurl the picnic blanket and rest among leafy greenery. Barbecues and pets are allowed at Piggies and the site has showers and wifi. Rally bookings are also welcome and there’s a handy storage service.

Local attractions

Fan of flying creatures…? Wing it towards the Screech Owl Sanctuary to spend time with these nocturnal animals or drop by The Cornish Birds Of Prey Centre (both 10 minutes’ drive) and witness the swooping hawks at the aerial displays. For beaches instead, you’re in the right place. Try the golden, two-mile-long Watergate Bay or mosey towards its smaller northern neighbour Mawgan Porth (15 minutes apiece); the National Trust’s scenic cliffside Bedruthan Steps beach is 20 minutes away. Padstow’s got its own stretch of shoreline too and is also home to Rick Stein’s restaurants (25 minutes). If you’re not dining at the chef’s famed eateries, source seafood for supper from the working fishing port. Rather admire underwater creatures than eat them? The National Lobster Hatchery conservation project (20 minutes) might be a better place to spend your time. To check out Cornwall’s inland head to The Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey and wander through natural spaces with a 19th-century theme. For international plants, the Eden Project (25 minutes) has an impressive selection from all over the world set inside a cluster of futuristic biomes.
