  • Peaceful rural site in Cornwall seven miles from the coast
  • A five-minute drive to Lappa Valley and 15 minutes to sandy beaches
  • Meals and barbecues available; on-site food shop for essentials
If you’re thinking of throwing in the shovel for a break away, head to Penhallow House Glamping Retreat, a peaceful Cornwall retreat where the coast is not far away. Within 15 minutes’ of several sandy beaches and Newquay’s lively seaside sights, this rural site is well-situated for making way to the north or south coasts, with Truro 20 minutes’ away on the other side and the A30 within five minutes’ drive. Let yourself be taken care of a little bit. With breakfast, lunch bags and evening meals available on site (upon request), you can feel pretty powered up for the day. Make use of the barbecues provided on site and find bits and bobs to stack up on the grill at the on-site shop, which has a nice supply of essentials to take care of the basic things you’ll want to get your mitts on. Plus, for any other needs, there’s also wifi and a launderette on site. If there’s anything you can’t find, there’s a small shop within five minutes’ drive. Drop into the pub while you’re there if you fancy some home-cooked style food or a pint before you head back. Then end the day beside the campfire if you wish, as they’re permitted back on site.

Harlyn 1 bedroom camping pod (double)

Liked: Everything! The pod was so warm and toasty! The fridge was very handy. The electric blanket was amazing and made me realize I need one of these in my life! Loved there was tea and coffee available all day and instant hot water! Everything we needed for our stay. Great location, 25 mins from truro, 15 mins from newquay. We had such a lovely little romantic break and this was an amazing find! The owner was very friendly and helpful. If we get another child and dog free weekend we will deffo be back! We love Cornwall and this place was the best!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Liked: Lovely little hidden gem, booked this as a last minute break while in Cornwall while the grandparents had the kids as was cheaper than travelling home to Yorkshire for a few days. Such a lovely welcome. The tent was immaculate with a comfy bed, the electric blanket was lovely to get into after a long day then a nice chill out by the fire we had outside the tent. Lots of wildlife about, we even had a small deer walk past the back of the tent whilst we was outside chilling one evening. Each morning there was fresh eggs and baked goods in the sunhouse for breakfast and fresh fruit. Nice relaxed stay and close to some lovely places. There is a pub that serves food which was a 15 min walk away with a lovely view from the beer garden. Would recommend this place and we will definitely be back when visiting Cornwall again.

Liked: We really liked the lively hospitality and all the lovely homely vibes from this place. Was even able to see the stars at night. Everything was clean and smelled lovely. And was lovely to have some nice animals about. Was nice and quiet and provided with great meals. There are many different things offered from the campsite on their lists and advisable on request. Loved the home made dinner they made us that we ordered.

Local attractions

Here, it doesn’t matter whether you’re keen on beach bumming it, taking in as much history as possible or letting your feet lead the way around the local trails. There are plenty of options for the former: a National Trust beach with surfing such as Godrevy (half an hour’s drive), the gorgeous bay, art museum and fishing harbour in St Ives (35 minutes) or Perraporth beach (15 minutes), a sandy destination for all things watersports. In Newquay (15 minutes), there’s more of the chilled-out sand and sea vibe, plus an aquarium and shops for good measure. For the ultimate peaceful coastal walks, though, St Agnes Heritage Coast (25 minutes) should be high up on your list – it’s a UNESCO World Heritage nature reserve, after all. As for that historic stuff, while the playgrounds are lovely at Lappa Valley (five minutes), it’s also home to a historic steam railway. Then, there’s the Healey Cornish Cyder Farm 15 minutes) for cyder tours and tastings, sure to be tasty, and the National Trust’s Trelissick Garden (half an hour) with 300-acres worth of walks and coastal scenery. Moorland trails are the speciality at Goss Moor National Nature Reserve (half an hour). However, if you’re looking for somewhere with more wildlife (and an indoor play centre too), Paradise Park and JungleBarn Cornwall (35 minutes) is likely to be a hit.
