Route directions

A satnav will bring you to the middle of Broom Lane. Carry on down the lane until you reach Lower Keats, which is the last turning on the left. The site has a flint stone wall and a gravel drive. If you reach the level crossing, you have come too far. If you are arriving at Axminster by train, make sure to book a taxi in advance, as it is rare to find one waiting at the taxi rank.

Local attractions

This part of the Axe Valley is within 15 minutes' drive of the Jurassic Coast, a spectacular area with gorgeous beaches, fossil-hunting spots, attractive resort towns and historic fishing villages. Favourite destinations like Charmouth (15 minutes' drive), Lyme Regis (20 minutes), Seaton (25 minutes) and Beer (half an hour) are all within easy reach and are all connected to each other by the dramatic South West Coast Path. For family-friendly days out with lots to please the kids, make your way to visit the birds and beasts at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (15 minutes). Alternatively, ride the vintage vehicles and take in the sea air at Seaton Tramway (25 minutes) or get down to Diggerland Devon (50 minutes) for an excavation extravaganza. If more grown-up activities are in order, there are lots of pretty National Trust properties in the surrounding area, including Barrington Court (25 minutes) with its colourful garden and Tudor mansion, and the grand parkland and interiors of Montacute House (30 minutes). This part of the world is also a hotspot for haute cuisine, with the likes of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage (15 minutes) just a short drive from base.
